Re: Xtrail snorkel link
Hi Ben,
Am sure I've seen the photo of this snorkel type here on the forum and we discussed it and someone mentioned that the air-intake is facing the wrong way. Which is true.
If we could only have our search engine search on thread content

Re: Xtrail snorkel link
That would be nice...
The wrong way bit is interesting. Common sense says that forward is good, but i found an article on autoweb to do with snorkels and air intakes, which demonstrates that the performance may not be so bad. The writer goes about measuring pressures above atmospheric at different points on the car. His conclusion was that smack bang in the middle of the radiator is the best place to draw air from, as the highest pressures are recorded. Another interesting point (with respect to my insistance on eventually putting a cold air intake on) was that alot of aftermarket CAI do not address the issue of actually drawing the coldest air. Alot of intakes draw air from inside the engine bay, which has two effects; Hot air (expecially during idle) leading to precombustion, and negative pressure leading to a fuel rich mixture. Although i hate to admit it, the xtrail does take the air from the best possible place. A few improvements to the box would be nice though: namely more intake ability, make a larger intake aperture that stretches across the whole radiator (not half), and a much less convoluted air path through the filter and into the inlet. The writer demonstrated using plumbing pipe and a hot air gun to get the desired result. The other option would be to put a standard CAI but sheild the hell out of it, something like what was available for VB-VH commodores. You could get a huge triangular shaped plate that sat between the engine and air filter. It ran from entire front of engine bay through to the area surrounding the back of the filter. No hot air at all!
Anyway food for thought.

Re: Xtrail snorkel link
Hi Guys,
Do we have any Spanish speaking xtrailers here in the forum with us who can contact this company and inquire about group-buy prices of the xtrail snorkel for our forum?
I have sent them an email (in English) but received no response.

Re: Xtrail snorkel link
Hi Guys,
Bad news am afraid
Received a response from the Spanish company that makes the cool looking snorkel and they told me, it's only designed for diesel engine and has not been tested with our type of engine at all.
They have no plans in manufacturing one for the petrol engine either.

Thanks for the link. I have now sent them an email on behalf of the forum showing interest and asking for their future plans.
Lets see what they come back with.

Re: Xtrail snorkel link
Wally,
I just received a reply from Safari as well along the same lines as they replied to you, however this time they indicated they're considering it but can not discuss any plans.
I have asked them to keep our forum in mind.
