The safest combination is similar to the one I have with the Murano 18x7.5 alloys and 245/45/18 Yokohama directional performance tyres.

But you cannot use the standard rims with these and they must have a different offset to stop the wider tyre from rubbing on the inside on full-lock.
Jalal can confirm this or correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Aftermarket Rims and Alloys

That's correct Kev. There is allowance on the xtrail to use positive and negative offsets, like the Murano alloys for example to compensate for the wider rim and wider tyres.

From memory the offset allowance is either +5 or -5 to that of the factory alloys which are 40mm offset.

40 or 45 offset will be fine for this type of wheel and tyre combination. Am not mentioning anything about the speedo as you said it doesn't bother you.

Personally, the max I will put on an exy is a set of 18" alloys cause you feel every bump with anything larger and you would definitely not put anything larger than 20" on it.

Hi Jalal,

Did you get any rubbing with this combo as im looking at changing to it soon. Would I be safer with 235/45/18's?

Hi Jay,

No rubbing at all and the 245/45/18 size is perfect, as it doesn't stick out of the fenders at all.

Re: Aftermarket Rims and Alloys

Well I bought the murano rims the other day and got the tyres fitted today and picked it up a lunch.

Taking your advice Jalal and getting the 245/45/18's. I am so much happier that i did. No rubbing at full lock and that extra width will no doubt provide extra grip needed when flying to work from Wollongong to Sydney cause its 10 past 8 and i start at 8:30 emoticon

For $125 a corner who can complain. Not the best brand but ill see how they go. May be passing the car to my fiance as her daily driver and she's lucky to do 50ks per week.

Went for a quick thrash around this afternoon and they felt awesome. The steering feels ALOT more responsive as well which i guess is from the lower profile?

I also stopped in it Solar Tint in Bankstown and getting the windows tinted tomorrow lunch at 20%. Ive read on here it is quite dark at night but the guy advised me with the white car and lighter colour interior ( and he had a car in there like this ) he said the 35% doesnt look as dark as cars with black interior. Oh well see how it goes and if its too dark ill just change it to the 35.

Im gonna start up a members ride thread some time soon so pics to come of the new change. Also got to get some goodies i.e. Chrome Door Handles and Front Billet grills from the exy shop so ill be in contact about those soon too.

Cheers.

Good stuff Jay and I look forward to seeing pics of your exy with the Murano rims. Out of all the sizes and rims I have tried (and I started with 15" alloys), I reckon the 18" Murano are the best size for the exy (on road)

Check the "for sale" section of the forum for some T30 goodies which I took off my Chrome Exy, as I am upgrading to a T31 emoticon

the lower profile and wider tyre will do that.
lower profile tyres generally have a stiffer sidewall too which adds to your stability in comparison to the 4wd tyre with the higher profile soft wall tyre.
either way your a plus in the performance and hadling side of things on road

Yeah on road is a thousand times better. Feel a little more of the bumps but definately worth it.
Now that the exy's offroad boots are hung up, i will start doing alot more visual upgrades to her.
