Re: T30 Suspension Lift

Hi Kev

If you are referring to me, it was actually going over a speed hump in my suburb. Not as demanding, you would think, as some of the deep ruts I have gone over. I put it down to the speed and height of the speed bump being just the 'right' combination.

I have had mine in 5.5 years (61,000km). The only other possible problem was the wheel sensor wire being ripped off (twice) by some stones in Central Australia in 2009 (see my trip report for more details). The 2" rise means that when the wheels are fully extended there is not much play in the wire to the sensor (or in the brake lines). I am wondering if the relative lack of give in the wire made it easier for the stones flying around to break the wire.

Alex

Actually forgot about yours Alex, it was Rich who I was referring to. He found his had popped when he felt it a little soft round a corner and heard a knocking when going into his steep driveway. This was a few days after a rough trip out.

Re:

Hi Matt,

Read the information available in THIS thread about the Whiteline swaybars.

Let's keep this thread on the topic of suspension lift only. Thanks

Re: T30 Suspension Lift

I have to 50mm spacers on my X-Trail and was thinking about upgrading my struts to Monroe GT Gas Struts. Is there anything that I have to be aware of when looking at struts (because of the lift - purchased the car with the lift already done)?

Was also thinking about doing the coils as well, while the struts were off. But, I can't seem to find any standard height coils. The smallest lift coils I can find are Ironman, which are 35mm. I've read that it's not advised to do both spacers and coil lift together (which I don't really want to do), but is that 35mm really going to be the extra lift? Or will they settle down to ~25mm or something?

I'm happy with my current height and really just want a strut and coil combination that will make the ride a bit smoother (90% on-road, 10% off-road).

Re: T30 Suspension Lift

You should be able to get standard coils somewhere other than Nissan.

The thing with going for anyone like Ironman is they ONLY make suspensions for 4WD and hence you're likely to only get extra-lift coils.

Have you looked at Monroe themselves ? Maybe Pedders or other standard suspension manufacturers ?

Re: T30 Suspension Lift

Haven't checked with Monroe, but will give them a call next week.

I haven't checked coil prices with Pedders either, as I was quoted $254 per strut (part only, no labour) when I had a "Tech Check" done (and the Monroe struts will be about $140 each), so I figured that everything would be expensive from them.

Re: T30 Suspension Lift

Monroe don't do springs; Pedders only do raised springs; and Amayama want part numbers. I was wanting upgraded springs, not just genuine replacements. Probably don't really need them, but thought I would do them at the same time as the rest of the suspension if I could get well known 4WD brand at standard height.

Wonder if I'd get away with the Ironman ones.....

Re:

Hi Finn

I was interested by your use of Patrol spacer. A few questions - Firstly what make, Maverick ?

Secondly could 30mm spacer be used with standard shock or would the shocks need to be longer, I do not know of any shock extensions ?

As the use of coil spacers changes the ride, retarding the spring compression, did you change the bumpstop length ?

Any thoughts on use as a "1 inch" lift, this is to allow for larger tires without compromising the drive line on a vehicle that is used for all sorts, off road, cruiser, tourer, etc.
