Hi good as gold
Matty bel from the central coast .I have saved money to do a lift to my 2003 ti xtrail
and was looking at a double if to .50 mil strutspacers and 30 mil king spring all round all up 3.0 inchers in lift .is their any thing i should look for to carry this out . will the caliper brake lines be a problem in lenght . emoticon

Hi Matty,

All of your questions have been answered before in detail, you can find the answers and pictures in this thread beginning around post number 600 or from page 61 onwards.

Short story: you can do the double lift but chances are you are going to encounter problems with the CV joint angles. Unlike most bigger IFS trucks, the X-Trail doesn't have a separate front diff which you could drop/lower to reduce the CV angles with a big lift. The CV angles won't be a problem in the rear due to the longer half shafts. For my double lift I replaced all brake lines with longer ones and extended the rear ABS sensor wires. Hope this helps.

I replaced my front strut spacers with 30mm Nissan Patrol GQ/GU coil spring spacers last week:

I did it so the shocks will limit the downward travel of the wheel a bit more. This will adversely affect articulation, but should prevent the CV joints from destroying themselves. I went wheeling this weekend and the X-Trail performed quite nicely, so I'm happy with the result despite the reduced downward travel.

I have read this thread and the 'Towing' thread. I have a 2005 T30 and have a light van with a max 130kg towball weight. At this weight the front of the X Trail is too high in my opinion.

Questions - is there a stronger rear spring which would help level the car without raising it?

- does the later T31 suspension cope with towball weight better and/ have a stronger spring kit available?

Hi Alan,

Pretty much any rear spring from a lift kit will have a higher spring rate compared to the stock springs. Naturally, these will lift the rear of the vehicle when not loaded, but it will be more level when towing or when there's more weight at the back. This also works the other way around, a "stronger" rear spring with a higher spring rate will lift the rear of the vehicle.

For reference, the rear springs of my X-Trail are ARB OME508 springs with a lift of 25-30mm. In my opinion, they perform very well when towing, the heaviest I have pulled is a car trailer, about 1800kg total.

However, if your intention is not to lift the X-Trail, an airbag assist or auxiliary/helper springs might be a better idea. Unfortunately I don't have first hand experience about those, but if I recall correctly there was a thread about airbag assists on this forum. If lifting is not the intention, that might be the correct thread to post in, rather than this thread.

Thanks. It is a bit hard to know where to post. There are a lot of threads on towing and suspension.
I could not find any airbags suitable as the shockabsorber is inside the coil spring.

well today after i gave the x a clean i noticed the rear strut leaking oil so its time for Stage 2 of my lift kit some efs shockies all round. hopefully they go well with my king springs... ill let every one no how it goes next weekend... im going to take heaps of pics if any one wants them

the conclusion of EFS shocks install is they are defiantly alot better than the old ones the ride is perfect they are alot stiffer up front and all round they make the care handle so so so so much better. to install the front it was hard to get the brake line connected again. the shocks really had to compressed to get the bottom bolts back in but over all the install wasnt that hard with the right tools lucky i bought a hole punch set recently as they where perfect to line the holes up at the bottom. The king springs make the job that little bit harder but deffintly happy with the pairing of the two components together. just remember to buy new strut covers so it looks smiko and stays intact for many years to come

just reading through old post and i realised you said that Pedders charged you more saying the rear was harder than expected. after pulling the struts out twice now i can tell you the rear only take about half hour each max the time is in the front. there a royal pain to get in compared to the back

Hi all i have just fitted a 50 mil strut spacers lift to my 2003 X trail love the look.
but a little worried about the anlge on the left hand front c v joint being a short shaft.
has anyone fitted the spacers and would know what i should look out for ?

HI Mat,

I have had the spacers in for just over 4 years now and only did a CV because a boot got split and ran dry when it lost all its grease.

Another member had a tier-od end ball joint pop out after going over some deep ruts. Other than that no problems from what I have heard or experienced myself.
