posticon New Premium Sound System for X-Trail

Hi guys,
Here's something for your X-Mas wish list.
The new X-Trails have Premium Kenwood Sound system. Refer:
http://www.nissan-th.com/x_trail/minisite/default.asp and click on C*CKPIT tab (after Intro)
This Unit (Model MP-4070B) is available in Australia through Doran Pro Audio and is located at Unit 6/42 Canterbury Road, Bankstown NSW 2200
Contact Phone: +61 2 9791 6311
http://www.doranproaudio.com.au
RRP is $699, they are selling it for $649. It fits in perfectly in the space provided. Comes with a remote, some might find it handy as sometimes it can be a bit of a stretch to the control panels plus it doesn't look bad at all.
I have already set up a "update sound system fund"

cheers

Just found out that JB Hi-Fi also stock them. Their price is $659 but at JB you can haggle.

I prefer the pioneer, but both of them look good, if not better for my taste that the one you just put in the post.

And you can have them on ebay for a fair less price than 659$ausd, im buying the pioneer for 220$usd new.

Hi driftking1,

I am also not the the biggest fan of Kenwood car stereos but the fact that it was the perfect size for the huge space is what appealed to me. Pioneer is up the there with the best in it's field, well ahead of Kenwood no doubt.
Are you ordering the one pictured in your post? Is that a cassette player in the middle? It must be the '70s Revival Edition' from Pioneer. emoticon

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely look it up on eBay

cheers

Yeah thats a cassette player, the easiest option for an Ipod adapter emoticon .

If you want a big radio like the original one for the x-trail start lookin for "Double din" units. The ones I posted here are only kenwood/clarion ones, Sony has an Xplod but it doensts looks good to my taste...

Blaupunkt(or whatever its called emoticon ) has a double din one but it doesnt plays mp3's.

Right now i've got A single din radio, but I dont like how it fits (pioneer DEH-M7400MP I think).

Also the pioneer ones have something called "Mosfet" that give them a higher sound quality when you crank the volume up! (The improvement over the stock clarion unit is very noticeable!).

Re: New Premium Sound System for X-Trail

I am still yet to buy our exy (march/april next year when I can give dad back is Hilux 4wd when he returns from overseas). I have however been doing lots of research on the audio system (amongst other things).

Upon hearing that the 6stack in the TiL models doesn't play mp3s or even CD-R discs, I came up with the following solutions:

Either buy a new 2 DIN unit such as the ones posted earlier in this topic, or, buy a "pocket" from Nissan for about $20-25 (most manufactuers make them). THe pocket is just a moulded plastic insert (would hold a wallet) that would be a single DIN height, so it attaches to the 2 DIN height stereo bracket along with any standard stereo headunit. It can go either above or below the head unit depending on preference, and it means that ANY head unit is then able to be put in the exy.

I figure a single CD player that plays MP3s will fit about 7-8 normal CD's worth of songs on it with reasonable sound quality maintained, so it takes the hpalce of a 6stack that will only play non burnt discs.

Let me know if anyone else has found this to be true (MP3's, CD-r media in the 6stack stereo model).

The pocket being available probably relies on the ST model exy only having a single DIN headunit (anyone know if this is the case???).

cheers
John

The Ti 6CD stacker does play CD-Rs with no problems at all.

Re: New Premium Sound System for X-Trail

Ive been toying with the idea of upgrading the exy system for a while - since it has 4 din slots available in total its crying out for some serious action!
The idea of a double din head unit is nice since it will fit in perfectly, but since I was born after the dark ages I have no need for a cassette player, and there seems no other reason for having a double din deck if it has exactly the same features as a single din but just takes up twice the space...
Im looking at a product that is about to be released in Australia called the Infill T3 which is basically a PC computer inside a double din case with a pop out lcd monitor. Ive no clue on the price yet but I think it will be several k - so too much for me emoticon have a look at, http://www.maxice.com.au
 he is the importer...
I think what I will end up doing is scouting around on ebay for a high spec laptop with a broken screen, mount that under my seat - connect a 7 inch touchscreen which will fit perfectly in the double din slot in the exy - attach an external dvd/cd drive and put that in the lower din slot on the dash - stick a wireless adsl card in the laptop, plus USB sat nav, plus wireless lan.
So then, as long as the comp in the car is powered up, I can connect wirelessly from the house, transfer all my music and video needs straight to the car. Also, via the external drive in the car I can play cds and dvds just like a normal head unit, plus access mobile internet while driving, plus access GPS and satellite navigation.
Im guessing a total budget of $2000 should get me there with no worries, Id be surprised if I didnt get away under $1500.
As far as speakers go - Ill be trying out some Jaycar kevlar splits and two ways in the near future - from what I can gather they will fit perfectly in place of the oem speakers - and bang for buck you simply cannot beat them! Check em here:

Re: New Premium Sound System for X-Trail

Kenwood has a nice double din flip down LCD dvd unit. Around the $2k mark.

I have previously had a 1 kenwood cd player, and Pioneer TV/DVD touch screen and a Pioneer CD Player in my previous cars. I would have to say the Radio Tuners in the Pioneer units are far superior to kenwood.

There are lots of cheap headunits on ebay from overseas, however the radio tuners MAY not work in Australia.

I dont mind my factory ST system, however a MP3 headunit is definatley on the cards.
