Apexi AFC controller for x-trail

Noticed there is an Apexi Air Fuel Controller for sale on ebay.

The auction states its compatible with x-trail. Could this solve some peoples problems with running rich/lean??

Knowing ebay it probably isnt compatible with Exy's... but thought it worth a mention.

Re: Apexi AFC controller for x-trail

As discussed in the "Piggy Back" ECU thread, yes this device could solve the "Rich" fuel/air ratios of the stock ECU, however as also discussed it does not give a significant amount of improvement to fuel economy. It is confirmed that it does increase power.

In my opinion for the cost of this item including install is not worth the bother with our exy. At the end of the day the X-Trail is a light 4x4 and not a race car. emoticon

This device is only listed for the QR20 engine, not the QR25 that we have here in Oz.

Re: Apexi AFC controller for x-trail

It is somewhat strange that they actually listed the cars this unit is compatible with, as the genuine A'Pexi product is universal and will fit any car!

Just be careful if you decide to go for it.

This mod will not save fuel at all, so to me personally it's not worth the money and I'm not after more power than I already have. emoticon

The A'Pexi is useless for cars that are running on stock parts and engines. It is intended to be used to release more power of the performance mods.

...and then you need to finda workshop capable of tuning it. I reckon there'd be more workshops able to tune a unichip than an apexi afc...

Re: Apexi AFC controller for x-trail

There are a couple of performance shops in Sydney who can fit the Apexi, but for a hefty $700 charge. This includes dyno tuning too.

This is because the apexi is not a stand alone unit and needs to be wired to the ECU (hard wired)

Can't say anything about the unichip and haven't heard any xtrailer using it (unlike the apexi)

Re: Apexi AFC controller for x-trail

I had a unichip fitted to my pulsar and when I had a look at the wiring afterwards, there were only a handful of wires connecting between the factory computer and the unichip...

Don't mean to contradict Rich on a point but thee are a heap of tuners who will tune up Apexi AFC's. (In Sydney alone I can think of at least half a dozen)

I tuned my WRX with a Apexi unit using my laptop and it wasn't hard as long as you have a bit of an idea about what an engine "should" be doing.

Re: Apexi AFC controller for x-trail

That's correct Andrew, but you need a wideband O2 sensor to be able to do that with a laptop.

Dyno tuning is more accurate I believe.
