Re: Interior Light

Hi Guys,

Domenic came around today to pick-up his key light and I started showing how to run the wires and it was then we thought that those of you with a Series II might be able to get the power from the door light that is attached to the door trim. It is much easier to tap into the power from there than the cabin light.

Just a thought.

Hey Kev, that doesn't look too bad at all. Have you tested its operation to see of the light is spreading out evenly?

OK Jalal, here is the pic of it working.

I think I might just push the LEDs back a little to not protrude past the edge of the hole and maybe turn the brightness down a bit. Otherwise I'm happy with it emoticon

I wonder if by any chance the wiring for the missing door-light on Series 1 might just be there anyway?

Does anyone know?

Re: Interior Light

Kev, that looks very nice indeed. Yes mate, turn the brightness down, otherwise it'll drive you mad if you have it hooked-up to the parker lights. If you have it connected to the cabin light, brightness doesn't really matter.

John: I have changed my door trims to the Series II ones with the door light and can confirm that Series I does NOT have the wiring for it there.

Re: Interior Light

Jalal,

For the Series 1 I've been looking at where to best get this feed from the door switch signal.

I think connector M30/M31 for the Time Control Module behind the driver's glovebox, pin 1 for +ve and Pin 26 for the sw -ve, might be good.

How easy is it to get the driver's glovebox off for access ?

Re: Interior Light

Kev,

Its very easy to remove that glovebox.

1. Take-off (unclip) the 2 silver strips on each side of the dash using a small screwdriver.

2. Unscrew the 2 screws holding the black plastic surround around the dials. (it just slides towards you)

3. In this step you might already see the screws holding the driver's glovebox in place (I can't remember exactly) but if not, you will need to unscrew the dials as well to see them. Just remove the 4 screws holding the dials in place.

Re: Interior Light

Re connecting cables to the new key-light:

It seems some may be having trouble getting small enough clips to attach cables to the new fitting.

I found a four wire harness with a flat plug each end in my box of computer left-overs. I cut one plug down so that it only had two wires and found that it fitted perfectly. (I will probably need that butchered cable again soon !!!!)

I appreciate that not everyone will have computer stuff laying around but computer techs or a repair place may be able to help you.

The original plug:

The "doctored" plug:

"Male" and "female" happily joined:

Hope this helps a little.
