Re: Interior Light
OK, I've worked out where the LED for the ignition light would get its +ve and -ve from relatively easily.
Now all I have to do is either find a clear replacement for the switch surround as Jalal suggests, or just organise where to drill a small hole and place the LED into the column cover close by.
Once everything has been hooked up and tested, I'll post a DIY with pics and schematics.

Re: Interior Light
Kev,
This is what we need for the ignition key ring.
I also just thought that a flexible thin LED strip stuck to the outer edge of the current key ring would also do the job fine. I just can't find any LED strips that thin on the net, but I'll keep looking.

Re: Interior Light
Jalal,
If the surround is so easy to remove by hand, what do we need it for anyway ? Certainly not security.
If it were removed, the gap around the keyswitch should let any light inside "escape" as if there were a clear surround fitted (?).

It is nothing but a cosmetic item to fill the gap around the ignition chamber.

That is true, but it'll be a bit of an ugly solution, as the gap will be quite noticeable, however if we find an LED strip similar to those clear LED type tubes to fill that gap, then it'll look OK I think.

Re: Interior Light
Any chance you could get a surround or two from an Xtrail the next time you visit the wreckers Jalal ?
This would give me spares to practice with as I'm looking at the surround in my hand and I'm thinking maybe some holes around the edge might do it.
I'm also trying to think of some clear plastic bottles, cups or tubes of the correct diameter which we might be able to manufacture our own clear surround from by glueing a larger size over a smaller one (if you understand what I'm trying to say).

Re: Interior Light
No worries Kev, I will try and get some but I don't know when am going there next.
I can picture the solution you have in mind and I have already located the small size diameter ring when I found a clear plastic cup in the kitchen, now I need to find the one that is just a little bit bigger

Re: Interior Light
Wow Kev, Looks nice indeed!
Did you make this or picked it up from another car?
I knew I forgot to check something out when I went to the wreckers

Re: Interior Light
Good stuff Kev, I have also just finished doing this mod under a huge bombardment of insults from my wife after slaughtering 2 of of the cups I found in the kitchen. hahahaha
Here they're are
I have decided to make the ignition cylinder "dust proof" so I only left a small hole for the ignition key in the middle
Here how it looks fitted in place
I found some spare dash globes with their base, so I used 2 of them and painted them in red to illuminate the circle
I glued them in place and there are 2 flat surfaces inside the steering wheel where they sit perfectly
I got the power from the main light switch arm (red & blue wire)
I also tried using a couple of small LEDs, but they didn't light-up the circle as much as I wanted.
Will take some pics tonight of the new mod in action
