Re: Light Turbo Charging of X-Trail.....How???

Thanks for the great write up there Ron!

Did that car also have custom extractors and exhaust? Given that my on board (estimated) dyno generally shows me around 94kw at the wheels with just the full Hi-Tech system, assuming this car also had a similar system then the turbo is only actually providing another 16kw, bang for buck? Don't think so.

Interesting though.

Thanks for the information Ron. I guess it is an option for those wanting to do the trubo charge and get almost the same power gain as that of a full exhaust system replacement or just a bit over that.

The full exhaust system replacement is a much safer option in my opinion and has proven to be reliable and good value for money.

Re: Light Turbo Charging of X-Trail.....How???

Hi Adam,

No, this system did not have a modified exhaust for the reason that the fuel pump would not be able to deliver enough fuel to the system and would defenitely require an upgrade. They did test various options but found a drop in fuel pressure when the boost is too high, same would apply if you had a less restrictive exhaust. From this you can see that turbo charging is not just simply bolting on a turbo and it all works, it's a delicate balance between the various components.

Hence, 2K for the full exhaust modifications or 4K for a turbo giving more or less the same gains. No contest really.

Ron,

The other aspect to consider is Insurance!

When I added the full exhaust system to my insurance policy, the first question they asked me if it was turbo charged (or a turbo charge being added). I said no, but what happens if it was? They said, they will not insure it at all.

Just Car will insure almost anything if you pay them enough. I think also Shannons will insure heavily modified cars.

If there were hardly any insurance companies that would insure a turbo'd car then almost all the cars on Geaorge Street in Sydney on a Fri/Sat night must be uninsured!! emoticon

Yeah, but how much is "enough"? emoticon

If this mod will double the insurance premium you're now paying for your exy with the exhaust system that is perfectly legal, then it's a bad investment, but it is indeed a choice.

Im not saying any turbo car is hard to insure , a factory turbo car is easier to insure than an aftermarket turbo conversion (ive owned 2!)

Re: Light Turbo Charging of X-Trail.....How???

So this is a product supported by the forum now??

Have they answered any of the questions outlined in this thread? does the kit have an intercooler? can you please give us some more info jalal?

From what i have read in overseas forums, the QR25 isnt taking very well to turbo charging.

Im not trying to critise, just dont want to see any forum members get burnt, I understand they have tested it, but on how many X Trails?

I think a rep from the company needs to get on here and give us a run down on their product and testing. I must say it looks very good.......

Can we asume you are getting the kit Jalal???
