Re: HOWTO: entering the radio's PIN and recovering from ERR

Had some major work done on the exy last week and needed to reset the radio/cd player.

Can't get the pin to work. First three numbers key in okay, but at the 4th place it hesitates, then shows 1, when press for 2 it goes straight to the Err message.

I've left the car on for it to reset itself twice now, have done all the right things per manual and dealer advice, and still cannot get it to work.

I've just spent almost $5000 on repairs/replacements to my beloved exy, but am ready to commit harakiri over this relatively minor problem. emoticon How am I going to cope with 1800km of Bruce Highway in the next few days without a radio?

Re:

Julie,

How many digits your PIN code is and does it have number 9 in the code at all?

Re:

There are four digits, and it's just the plain old ordinary unit that came with the 2005 ST.

Re:

Julie,

Is this the first time you are using this PIN code or have you entered it before since you bought the car?

I take it you have followed the correct method as described on Page-1 of this thread?

Re:

In this case it is finally time to replace it as the buttons or even the security feature of the CD player has stopped working. To fix it is a big waste of money.

Re:

That's what I'm afraid of. Thanks Jalal. It did get quite a bit of dust in when I broke the back window a few months back.
Any suggestions of models for a good bottom of the line/least expensive unit. I don't need high quality as am usually glued to ABC stations, more than music. I wouldn't know where to start.
If anything else falls to bits I'll just about have a new car at this rate! and be living in it instead of being able to buy my new house..... emoticon

Re: HOWTO: entering the radio's PIN and recovering from ERR

If its a single din (one level) stereo, ANY unit from repco, supercheap, autobarn will do what you need. Isopro adapters available at the same store to match the Xtrail wiring loom to the new stereo.
If its double din (large face stereo with a stacker or something else) spend 600 bucks online and get a DVD/GPS/CD unit on evil bay. Easily and cheaply installed by any decent auto elec, and the unit will do more than any original unit can.

Might mean a quiet run back home though. (headphones and a mobile phone always work in cases like this....I Tunes or stored music?)

Cheers

Re:

Julie,

Please do a search on the forum for the single CD units and you will find quite a few. There are very cheap ones on the market (as cheap as $75 bucks) which will do the job perfectly well. I reckon even Aldi stores have these now.

Re:

Pitty you are not close to Brisbane Julie as I have a single din unit sitting in my cupboard with a detachable face and mp3 compatibility!
