Re: Problems with Idle Revs

I don't think 95 is enough, you need to be running on 98 from now on only.

I suggest you fill it up with 98 or put octane booster in it and see if that solves the problem.

I have seen this stuff in the servos and have been reluctant to use it because of bad press or something I saw on tv (can't remember)

After reading the following report, it appears to be the s**t. But as with MOST product reports, they are totally 'unbiased' and 'honest'.

 Does anyone use this stuff.
I may just give it a try.

Re: Problems with Idle Revs

Hi Brett,

This is exactly the product I was referring to and which I have used on more than occasion and in many cars too. It does work and I actually used to keep a whole box of it in the garage (when super cheap have them on special) emoticon

Since I switched to 98 fuel, I'm stopped using it, but been using is with the 95 fuel all the time.

Re: Problems with Idle Revs

Hi guys, I've come across a problem with the Thunda.

Monday when I started the car and drove off everything was normal. I got to the first set of lights and the engine started hiccupping while idling. It only skipped a few times but it was noticable.

It seemed to be alright under acceleration, only when idling. Tuesday the same thing. Thoughts start running through my head - dirty fuel filter, crap batch of fuel etc. After reading some forum threads yesterday, I ruled out the filter and thought maybe a bit of water in the fuel so I stopped and got some of the fuel cleaner that was recommended and put that in.

I also noticed it didn't seem to be running any hotter or idling any higher.

This morning it is no better even with the stuff I put in. Does it take awhile for this stuff to clean the fuel or do I have to run the tank dry or could it be something else.

I have noticed this has only happened since I washed the car after the road trip. I did spray lots of water underneath trying to clean all the mud off and while I did do the engine bay it was no more than what I regularly do.

Does anyone have any suggestions ? emoticon

I believe that’s the cause of it Jamie. What you regularly do when washing the engine bay could be more than enough for moisture to get into the spark plug coils emoticon

I suggest that you unscrew all of the spark plug coils and give them a good clean and dry them up. There is no need to remove the spark plugs themselves, just the coils.

Also another suggestion is to leave your exy in the sun for the day with the bonnet up.

This way any residual water trapped in places it should be will have some time to evaporate out.

Thanks Noel,

One would think that when you drive it the heat from the engine would evaporate all the water in and around the engine bay wouldn't you?

Re: Problems with Idle Revs

Jamie,

I had this on my Maxima and it turned out to be a failed coil.
Try unplugging each coil, one at a time while the engine is idling rough.
You will know if there is a faulty coil since unplugging a good coil will make the engine idle rougher.
This is what Nissan service did to find mine.

Re: Problems with Idle Revs

Well guys, I got home today and took some pictures of the dash mat (more of that in the right thread) and because the engine was hot I had to let it sit awhile.

Not knowing much about the motor I undid the bolts on the black things on top of the motor and could not see the spark plugs, further investigations of course revealed the whereabouts.

Most shocking was what I found inside where the spark plug lives.

I'm not too sure the pictures shows in full detail what I found.

Image

If you look at the 2nd coil from the right, all that black stuff is oil.

I had the car serviced before going away last week and what I suspect is that the plug has not been put in correctly.

or, maybe when I washed the car I cracked something.

Or something worse still.

I will be at the mechanics door first thing in the morning.
