Re: Problems with Idle Revs
I don't think 95 is enough, you need to be running on 98 from now on only.
I suggest you fill it up with 98 or put octane booster in it and see if that solves the problem.

Re: Problems with Idle Revs
Hi Brett,
This is exactly the product I was referring to and which I have used on more than occasion and in many cars too. It does work and I actually used to keep a whole box of it in the garage (when super cheap have them on special)
Since I switched to 98 fuel, I'm stopped using it, but been using is with the 95 fuel all the time.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?
I believe that’s the cause of it Jamie. What you regularly do when washing the engine bay could be more than enough for moisture to get into the spark plug coils
I suggest that you unscrew all of the spark plug coils and give them a good clean and dry them up. There is no need to remove the spark plugs themselves, just the coils.

Re: Problems with Idle Revs
Also another suggestion is to leave your exy in the sun for the day with the bonnet up.
This way any residual water trapped in places it should be will have some time to evaporate out.

Re: Problems with Idle Revs
Jamie,
I had this on my Maxima and it turned out to be a failed coil.
Try unplugging each coil, one at a time while the engine is idling rough.
You will know if there is a faulty coil since unplugging a good coil will make the engine idle rougher.
This is what Nissan service did to find mine.

Re: Problems with Idle Revs
Well guys, I got home today and took some pictures of the dash mat (more of that in the right thread) and because the engine was hot I had to let it sit awhile.
Not knowing much about the motor I undid the bolts on the black things on top of the motor and could not see the spark plugs, further investigations of course revealed the whereabouts.
Most shocking was what I found inside where the spark plug lives.
I'm not too sure the pictures shows in full detail what I found.
If you look at the 2nd coil from the right, all that black stuff is oil.
I had the car serviced before going away last week and what I suspect is that the plug has not been put in correctly.
or, maybe when I washed the car I cracked something.
Or something worse still.
I will be at the mechanics door first thing in the morning.
