Locusts

Drove through a patch of locusts near Fernihurst the other day. I may have mentioned it before but the best way I've found to get them off is to mix about 250g bi carbonate of soda with a bucket of water, and splash it on liberally before you wash teh car normally - takes all those insect remains off. Re: Locusts

Thanks for this tip, David.

I just tried about a table-spoon full into a glass of water and poured it onto a sponge to do my bonnet and front bumper that have been caked in bugs since the October long weekend.

I have to say I am quite amazed at how well it works! I have tried those "bug and tar remover" products before and not been impressed by them.

One warning though - make sure you rinse it off straight away otherwise it leaves a powdery residue on the paint (and on the nudge bar). I imagine it probably isn't too good for the paintwork, but if it's done quickly and rinsed off immediately then I'd imagine minimal harm would be done.

Re: Locusts

 Guys,

Yep, just experienced those damn locusts coming back from Newcastle the other day.

The bi-carb idea is one of those old 'wives tales' that actually works, but what about the ones stuck in your radiator ???

Like a few out there, I installed a radiator mesh protector and it was caked with bugs. But it was very easy to clean the bugs off this mesh. A mate travelling with me, (without protection) actually damaged his radiator trying to get the bugs of the radiator due to it being a soft aluminium construction. Heaps of his cores folded in on themselves due to the water pressure he used to clean it.

Mark one up for the magic of mesh.

I've included a photo of my protection.

Re: Locusts

I just go and park at the local bakery and let European Wasps eat the bugs off. Meanwhile I am having an espresso. Nature, even if wrong, has a purpose!

Re: Locusts

Brett that mesh looks brilliant - is it the stuff from Supercheap Auto that you cut to fit?
Glenn.
