I don't have a convenient hose. When absolutely filthy, I've occasionally hosed (with rainwater from the tank) and used a soft brush to shift the road grime. (Never used detergent or waxed.) Otherwise, if it looks like rain and the white car looks a bit grubby, then I'll park it outside and let the downpour do its thing. Note: 4 years on, there are no swirl marks on the original paint. Edit: Naturally any original waxing type application has long worn off so water no longer "beads". Now it flows. No drama. nondisclosed_email@example.com (DogTrail)Tue, 13 Oct 2015 19:36:49 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076988,from=rss#post2076988https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076988,from=rss#post2076988Wash every 2-4 weeks (Dodo Juice ph neutral wash ~ 2 bucket method, Autobrite Project 32 detail) Dodo Juice quick detailer once a week (get rid of dust layer and grime)nondisclosed_email@example.com (illdrag0n)Mon, 19 Aug 2013 21:42:58 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2071709,from=rss#post2071709https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2071709,from=rss#post2071709Afraid that after 7.5 years my exy still goes thru the auto car wash (on ultimate/extreme etc) every 2 weeks, or every visit to town. Still looks reasonable if you don't count the dings & scrapes & stone chips. I found that sand builds up inside the rear bumper and it's only by removing rear bash plate (or releasing the 2 rear mounting bolts) that I was able to get a hose inside the bumper to clear the sand. (i did not use the pressure cleaner inside the bumper in case I blew something off) My recent Fraser Island trip was often through a lot of soft sand and I did scrape the underbody on several sandy bush tracks with deeper wheel ruts. I was thinking about putting the washed out sand around my pool and over time, making my own private beach..ha ha. Both my front and rear bash plates had nicks and scratches with flaking paint and surface rust. Easy to clean up and then respray.....After respraying mine over the wekend i found an unopened 1 litre can of GREY metal paint suitable for painting over rust......I may respray again and then I will have grey bash plates to go with my grey Exy. cheersnondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Mon, 07 Nov 2011 07:57:59 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057907,from=rss#post2057907https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057907,from=rss#post2057907Hi Dave, You have encouraged me to put the Red Bull on ramps in the driveway and remove the bash plate (mainly the front one) and give it a good blast with the high pressure cleaner to get the remaining sand off from the lower bits of the car and suspension arms. I was surprised to see surface rust was already starting to build-up on the drive-shafts and other suspension bits. The front bash plate itself was completely fine, no scratches or rust spots after the Woolgoolga trip and there wasn't much sand trapped in the bash plate either. Came out from under the car all wet and muddy and my wife asked me "if everything was OK" as this was about 8am and she must have thought I had a bad dream or something to do this so early in the morning LOL nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sun, 06 Nov 2011 17:53:18 +0000 Re: How often do you guys wash you car?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057835,from=rss#post2057835https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057835,from=rss#post2057835I have to thoroughly wash the exy regularly including removing bash plates for underbody cleaning. I'm averaging a beach trip (mainly for fishing) every 5 - 6 weeks and the build up of sand beteen bash plates and underbody just can't be completely removed unless plates removed. A thorough underbody wash with fresh water using pressure washer hopeully removes any salt build up as well. Any way, removal of plates helps me touch up any rust spots on plates. Yesterday I completely resprayed plates with a quality paint that can be painted over rust (or so the can says). I used an angle grinder first to remove flaking paint as well as noticeable surface rust...especially around mounting holes and the edges. Now thinking about the electronic rust prevention options................ cheersnondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Sat, 05 Nov 2011 06:58:27 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057819,from=rss#post2057819https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057819,from=rss#post2057819Mine is still going thru the automatic car wash every 2-4 weeks, trouble is the build up of wax on the windscreen and headlights. Can get a new windscreen soon since there's a few stone chips, but the headlights have gone yellow and blotchy and thinking I'll have to get them polished, just not sure whether to risk it or not. Otherwise I've found that with one of those fancy microfibre sponges with the dangly bits on one side, I can wipe it over using half a bucket of water and comes up really well.nondisclosed_email@example.com (trailx)Fri, 04 Nov 2011 22:07:00 +0000 Re: How often do you guys wash you car?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057401,from=rss#post2057401https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2057401,from=rss#post2057401Ok when to wash the car. In fact I think only the hatch didn't have stone chips Took the dealership that took it about 3 weeks to get onto the used lot They wouldn't have seen half of it as it was a horrid wet day when they appraised it and it was covered in dirt, mud, road slush..... from the last 5 months.
