Re: Disabling Key-in Warning Chime *DIY*

Yes, I did think about it. Mainly I didnt wont the switch on the dash because I wonted it out of sight. There is still around two years of warranty left and I didnt wont to give Nissan any opportunity to get out of fixing the car if there was a problem and haveing it at the back of the seat they will never know its there. Also I think its much more tidy there than haveing an after market switch on the dash. See, no problem in putting it on the dash just a little more work.

Hi Jalal,

As suggested in one of the method I did removed 3 screws under steering column but wasn't able to take the cover off. I think either I'm missing some more screws or some clips. Is it something you've to put little extra force to take it out (afraid of breaking any plastic part emoticon )

And, I think I need to remove this cover anyway to connect RFL too.

Hi Harish,

The Series II only has 3 screws holding the steering column covers in place (Series I has 4 screws) and it requires some force to disengage the clips holding the top and bottom halves together. Just make sure you remove the ignition key plastic ring from its place before you attempt to separate the steering column, as it will fly away if not removed emoticon

Thanks Jalal,

I did removed the 3 screws and ignition key plastic ring as that was very easy to take off emoticon (was very surprised) but was bit scared when plastic cover wasn't disengaging and didn't wanted to put extra force. Anyway now I'll try to disengage bottom half with some force. emoticon

Thanks again for all your help!!

Harish,

Just remember to tilt the steering wheel all the way down, as the top half would be jammed against the dash when the steering is all the way up.

Jalal,

Does that mean top & bottom both will come out? I think this is where I was wrong as steering was all the way up to make some room for myself and I was just trying to take bottom part out.

Both Harish, the top and bottom parts will come off.

Hi Harish,

I found that putting a screwdriver in the small gap at the top of the ignition key where the surround was removed and using it to lever up the top cover was enough to disengage one clip and make it easier to unclip the rest by hand.

Thanks Kev! This will certainly be handy when I'll do couple of mods this long weekend.

Yay! emoticon emoticon

This mod is done successfully. I'm very happy.

Jalal, just a quick addition in DIY, series II has also 4 screws instead of 3 (I almost broke the top/bottom cover by putting too much force emoticon) .

Radiator protection is also done, will post some pics in relevant section later.

Thanks a bunch Jalal & Kev!!
