Re: Audible Factory Alarm Activation

Jalal,

I'd recommend an aftermarket alarm for sure - especially if you park it away from view (work or train station etc) regularly.

There are so many on the market these days it would take hours, possibly even days, to write up a review, so I won't do it emoticon

Our of curiosity, have you half-closed a door and tried to lock the doors - I think it beeps then (or maybe that was when I pressed the panic button instead of the lock button)...

Rich, you've already done the hard work and put quite a considerable amount of good information in THIS threrad about the aftermarket alarm upgrade options, so I need to choose carefully now as to which one would suit my needs.

I think I've done that once and the doors wont lock and the signal lights wont flash. It didn't beep.

you will be happy to know that we have the second dearest key in Australia ... from memory it was around $140

Toyota rule in this area: our other car's a Tarago - we bought it used with only one remote fob+key and a valet key (no remote) (there should have been a second remote fob+key). Wanted a second key, was quoted $350. No way! Rang around half dozen auto sparkies and even a couple of "specialists" in Sydney, most couldn't help me when I said "2001 Toyota". I found one place (in Randwick) that could do it for $180 but they'd need the car as well as the existing key. i.e. they can't just duplicate the key!

I haven't replaced the key yet, and am just hoping my wife doesn't lose or have stolen the main key - we're up for a $1500 engine computer replacement if that happens...

Soooo, $140 sounds cheap :-)

The thing that bugs me most about all this: a classic case of overdoing security. The "unbreakable" key means it costs me a small fortune to replace, yet I have every confidence a pro could still nick our Tarago. And joyriders would be (are) kept at bay by the lower security (cheaper!) keys as used in other models.

Ben

Re:

I have a NT30 from Japan. It has a 2.0 petrol engine and automatic transmission.

I would like to seek help concerning the immobiliser on the X-Trail (not sure if mine from Japan has it though)
How can I know or maybe check that my X-Trail has or doesn't have an immobiliser? The exy came with two keys. One with a lock and unlock button on it. The other is a plain all metal key. Both keys are able to start the engine without any problem. And, I should mention that the security indicator light on the dashboard is always off.

Thanks in advance.
