Quick question about window tinting

Hi Guys,

I don't know about you, but I'm not happy with the quality of my window tiniting, especially in the hot summer days. It doesn't seem to block enough sunlight and the other thing it doesn't provide enough privacy if the car is parked outdoors.

I had a type of window tinting on my old camry that was similar (if not the same) as the one Terranismo has on his black xtrail.

The question:

Can the windows be re-tinted? either by applying a second layer of darker tint (but still keeping within the legal limit) OR stripping of the existing tinting and starting from scratch with the one I really like.

I have mentioned to the nissan dealer that I didn't like the quality of the tinting they chose and they said thats all what other xtrails get if they choose to have it done by the dealer.

Re: Quick question about window tinting

Good question.

Mine has a sunroof, which is usually closed, but the carpet cover is pushed back so light can get in. I figured that the tinting didn't look very dark because the light coming in the top stops the "one way" effect of the tint.

Doesn't seem to make much difference if I close the roof. I would love to have darker tint, I think it would look great with the white.

Re: Quick question about window tinting

Jalal you can choose either of both options. Personally I would strip the old tint and go with some new film altogether.

If the tint your dealer installed is of low quality, in some time it will start getting bubbly or purplish. Why install new window tint over one that is obviously of low quality? It is also harder to remove later on two layers of tint instead of one.

My tint (if you chose to replicate it or if it's legal in Oz) is Johnson 5% black. It goes really nice with the stock black paint, giving it a monocromatic look.

Re: Quick question about window tinting

Thanks terranismo.

I don't think the dealer tint is low quality, as they gave a life time warranty on it and it hadn't bubbled over the past 2 years I had the car or anything (although I wish it had).

The problem is it's not dark enough to block sunlight and give me the privacy I want.

I'll go to my local car tinting shop and see what they suggest. will also ask them about your tint type.

Re: Quick question about window tinting

Jalal,

I hope you have fixed up this problem with window tint since it was back in October,

My Sister owns Solace on the Central Coast and will put 20% on but will not put stickers advertising Business. They strip and retint.

They also have 5% available (same as Abulance but will not put this on Driver and Passenger window. There is no specific test to say what is legal or not.

Re: Quick question about window tinting

Hi Shane and thanks for the reply.

No, I haven't fixed the problem yet. No time to fix it, but hopefully I'll get around it now that I'm on holidays.

I really like the 5% tint and it gives full privacy, plus the car will look awsome (specially in black)

Any idea how much the strip and retint process would cost for both the 20% and the 5%

Does you sister have any contacts in Sydney?

Jalal

Posted a more detailed response to Personal message.

Looking at around $400 or so.

Re: Quick question about window tinting

Hi Shane, my new X-Trail is going to Solace on the coast via the dealer.. I was going to ask the dealer to arrange the 20% & 5% instead of the stock smoke light shades. Would you say its better to ring Solace direct to arrange it and pay them the difference?

Re: Quick question about window tinting

Phil,

First of all did you get the Tint thrown in for free.

Which Solace are you going to.

And remember if you change the Tint to 20 & 5% theres a good chance that you will not receive a warranty from Solace or Nissan.

You can call direct.

Shane
