Re:

A few years back, when the rebate was put up to $2000, many claimed the kit/install price went up.

Unfortunately we are still paying the same raw material and development costs. There have been savings passed on from the Euro/aussie dollar exchange rates being better for some time. The biggest factor with kits is the market size we have. LPG is almost a third of the cost of petrol some weeks, $0.51 per litre but petrol is up to $1.45 in capital cities and even remote areas still give good savings.

In Australia the car entire car fleet market is about 5% LPG converted. Our costs would drop if more people realise the massive savings you can make with LPG.

If you read the economists reports about oil pricing in the future, many are working on the assumption that $200 a barrel will happen. Forum members may want to research why. If this was to happen, LPG around the world will boom and a massive parts shortage will happen as it did in 2008.

In the short term. If you are looking at going LPG, installers have dropped prices to push car bookings in for the NEW YEAR, the next week are normally slow. So if i was a keen shopper, i was be checking it out now.

Re: LPG autogas

Thanks Peter,
I also understand the rebate has now been capped at a maximum of 25,000 conversions/yr and currently being almost half-way through this year, only about 1/4 of that allocation has been taken up.
Do you think it is the reduced rebate which is the main reason or that petrol was cheaper for a while and people have gotten used to it again ?

The costs of fuels and LPG installs will never reduce that drastically. Whether it be LPG or petrol.
Look at the cost of Diesel, once again prices are going up even though more and more people are buying diesel engined cars.

That's exactly why the cost of diesel is going up emoticon

Re:

Being LPG minded we don't see the benefits in the Diesel.
i know i will but the wind up many with that comment. But reality is you pay $5000 extra for an engine, you pay premium fuel costs for a little bit better economy.

LPG is about 51 cents/litre, shopper dockets can be up to 12 cents off that price. You use about 30% more compared to petrol with a vapour injection kit. 30% more means it's $0.65 a litre compared to petrol use.
and we have about 60 years of known reserves.

Diesel or petrol are $1.35- $1.50
Okay you get 10% better fuel saving with diesel so it's in the $1.20- $1.35 averaged out compared to a litre of petrol. You are still twice of the cost of LPG.

If $200 a barrel for oil happens as the predictions are, we would have to be paying $3.00 for petrol let alone what diesel will be. but LPG will be $0.51 a litre!!!

My wife thought $150 a week on petrol was dear to run the kids around. it costs her about $70 with LPG.
Yes she always runs out and runs a bit on petrol but hates it now.

Re:

Some people like myself buy the diesel for the torque, in my case towing a trailer 6 days a week.
Unless you own a diesel you won't understand what I mean.
When looking at fuel usage when towing, petrol or LPG comes nowhere near the economy of a diesel engine.

Re: LPG autogas

Economy of a diesel in respects to lt/100km or as in $/100km ?
Sure petrol and LPG will be somewhere like 2x that for diesel in lt/100km when towing, but with LPG being 1/3 the $ then that gives you about 2/3 of ther diesel $/100km and in my calculations = economy.

Re: LPG autogas

Have had lpg fitted for 6 months now. Lpg 55c/l then and is now79c/ltr. I get 460Km from a tank (53ltr) , suburban use as against 550 Km per tank of petrol.(58ltr)

Petrol is now $1.55 here. I know why petrol is up, but cant understand why LPG has risen by 30%, Gillard indicated a rise of 2.5% per litre yearly until 2017 but some companies have already taken more. As a senior, each dollar counts , so LPG is still more attractive, and I do not lose any power from my Exy.

Also I have read posts re spare wheel position. My exy has a cargo barrier and blind.

I stood the wheel flat against the lefthand side of the barrier between the support of the blinb and the barrier. I positioned the wheel so that the air valve was uppermost and put a 8 mm bolt through a wheel hole to a hole in flat bar behind the barrier held by a wing nut. With a cut through the barrier, One cross of the mesh, I can access the spare tyre valve. A nissan spare wheel cover finishes the job and is very stable.
