Description of Problem Cause
1. Poor Fuel Consumption on LPG Wrong calibration (Too small calibrators)
2. Check engine light on when operating on LPG Wrong calibration (Too small calibrators)
3. Inconsistent filling 38 to 40 litres Low pressure switch back function on low fuel level
4. Stalling on incline when changing to LPG Wrong calibration (Too small calibrators)
5. Hard to start in morning LPG injector nozzle seal (replaced injector)

Action Taken
Analysed fuel trim data and found that the system was running too lean. Replaced calibrators with standard size. Conducted petrol/gas fuel consumption test on drive to Albury:
Petrol test - 26.78 litres for 294km travelled = 9.1 litres per 100km (open road driving)
LPG test - 39.76 litres per 402km travelled = 9.89 litres per 100km (open road and metro driving)
Fuel usage difference is 9%. Normally we see a difference of 10 to 15%.
Emptied LPG tank to check refill capacity.

Conclusion
Check engine light and stalling issue were caused by the replacement of the JTG calibrator jets to a non standard size for this model. The hard starting was caused by one of the LPG injectors allowing a small amount of LPG to sit inside the engine overnight to cause a hard start situation when cold. Retest cold start was perfect. Found the LPG tank refill was within tolerance.

Hi peter this is Steve(raelenes Husband)Hopefully all the problems have been fixed.the small calibrators were put in by the installer to try and rectify the bad consumption,were they the wrong ones or were the original calibrators too small as well.Also I am a bit concerned that the car was driven for nearly 700klm without any notification to us,saying that I do understand it needs to be tested but we were not informed it was going to be driven half way around Victoria.

Steve,
my understanding was Hilbert advised Raelene that a consumption test was to take place to accurately assess the situation. One of the problems reported was fuel consumption.

The calibrators that have been put back in to the car are the original size and no variation has been changed. It is hard from our side to work thru what were issues prior to us reviewing the car and we would be guessing to causes of the intial problems.

Immediately upon picking the car up, Hilbert wasn't happy with the car. Our tech team are very pedantic and they were very happy with the vehicle upon completion of the field report.

Well its been nearly 4 weeks since we got our x-trail back from the Supplier and I sorry to say we are still not happy with the consumption and ongoing problems with the system,The best consumption we have got so far 13 lts per 100klm,that is using the same pump to fill every time and we are not lead foots, as well as problems with missing and shuddering at low speed.On contacting the supplier about the ongoing problems they said "we are happy with it so we are not going to look at it"and told us to take to the installer with any problems we have.We did a lot of research before getting this system believing it was and economical and reliable alternative to petrol,but I must say we are pretty disappointed so far.

And now to top off everything we get a toll-road bill for $7 for when they took it for "a 700klm test drive"around Victoria.

Hi Steve,

just saw your post. You reported having issues with the car still and we requested you return to the installer to assess your problem. As we had not seen or felt your problem during the trial we need the installer to asses this complaint. We have not heard from anyone, have you contacted the installer yet?

Our comprehensive testing showed that you LPG economy vs. petrol was excellent (mixture of highway and suburban cycle)
When your wife contacted us with this new complaint, the question was asked of her about petrol consumption results, and had she driven the vehicle on petrol in the same conditions. The response by her was that no petrol consumption test for "suburban driving"had been carried out since we returned the Xtrail. At this point we have not received the data. Has this been done or would you prefer to guess the results?

You complain about your LPG use rates but have no information about what the car does in suburban driving on petrol. How are you able to compare? Please confirm asap.

By the way it's easy to make smart arse comments about tolls ,but yet you don't report the "full tank" of petrol and almost full tank of gas left in the vehicle when we returned it.

Thanks for responding and for keeping on top of things relating to this case.

Steve, I strongly suggest direct dialogue between yourself, Peter and the installer to solve any problems, as posting your concerns here and hoping for someone from the company to read them will only delay things and cause further misunderstanding/frustration.

Please report back when you had the chance to speak to your installer and Peter and when you have solid data comparing the LPG consumption to the Petrol figures of your car.

Hi jalalski& peter This is my last word on this forum about this as this not the place for it.Peter it was not a smart arse comment it was the truth and yes you did leave a full tank of gas when you returned to us which we did appreciate.We took the car to installer last Thursday and he was going to contact you guys about it.And jalalski as you can see from my previous posts we have been in constant contact with peter and Hilbert about these problems.I am not "just posting in the hope they they will read it" There is a lot more I could say but as I said this is not the place for it.

well now the rebate from the government for LPG conversions to existing vehicles has declines to $1250 and will decline to $1000 on 1st July 2012 before it cuts out another year later.
Wondering now if it is worth the cost of conversion with the rebate being half what it was originally as I expect the cost of the system install hasn't reduced by the same $1250
