My system is an Italian vapour injected system with their own ems. The car starts on petrol and the ems. Switches to lpgas once the engine has reached a temperature that allows proper gas burning. Also rpm must exceed 1000 first. I'm interested to know how you use the LPG and what system it is you had installed. I seem to recall there was a requirement to use an occasional tank of Petrol to keep the valves lubricated too.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 06 Apr 2020 16:25:36 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097352,from=rss#post2097352https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097352,from=rss#post2097352Update As of yesterday my Xy has done 176000km mainly on LPG. Still performing as well as the day it was installed. Have had platinum sparks replaced twice 100km and 75km but were still perfectly acceptable, no heat stress. Only major problem was a damaged valve membrane in the convertor which caused a leak of gas (minor) but upset "she who must be obeyed." Cost of rebuilding the u nit was about $180 with all new seals etc. but as the original installer said the unit ususally had a life of about ten years, mine installed in 2010, I bit the bullet and installed a new unit for @300 with two year warranty. Latest gas useage is about 12 litres/100Km.which on a tank of 55ltr is about 450kM urban. All of you out there keep safe and well. To soon to be 100% shore . I could not find no other leaks anywhere & was also told by a Exhaust repair shop there is no second Cat on this 2005 T30 model. It only happens when the pipes are hot & only on LPG.I know there is no Cat in the exhaust manifold no more & before it was removed this problem did not exist.I will keep looking for air leaks but to be honest I dont think I will find any.We will see.  Well it looks to me from looking around on the Net & Manual my 2005 Ex does have a Second Cat that looks like a Hotdog Muffler.I bet removing it will fix my popping & banging.Soon Find out. Well I took off the first Hot dog looking unit & it was a Cat .Original & made in Japan.Inside I could see right through it.Only the thin metal that held it was there.I needed the car so put it back on & yes it still backfire out the Muffler.nondisclosed_email@example.com (2stroke)Mon, 25 Jul 2016 23:18:33 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091643,from=rss#post2091643https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091643,from=rss#post2091643Exhaust popping and banging is usually caused by either incorrect timing or over-fuelling. LPG is a slower burning fuel and so needs a more advanced timing than petrol so if the timing is not changed by the LPG controller then it could be possible for unburnt LPG to be pushed out with the exhaust gasses.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Sat, 23 Jul 2016 19:16:36 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091642,from=rss#post2091642https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091642,from=rss#post2091642All rebuilt finally .I noticed the bore had a few light score marks & may have bean from the drilling of the inlet manifold when the LPG injector lines were put in.Or maybe the Cat Converter blow back . All up the bore & pistons are OK so very lucky. My Mechanic got a LPG head from Headex PERTH but the first one they dropped off was only Stock. You must have hard exhaust valve seats at least .Not shore what elso is needed. Dont trust your mechanic.Look & check for yourself. When I got the car back it would not idol right & I had to pay Magic Nissan to fix & reset that .The primary cat has been completely removed to as it will destroy the block on LPG .The only problem now is when you back off the throttle on LPG in gear I get pops & Bangs out the exhaust pipe some so bid the muffler could be damaged. My Guess is the Cat used to burn this LPG up & stop this from happening before but now without the primary it goes further down the pipe perhaps igniting at the second Cat .Its vapor injected LPG & does not happen on Petrol at all. nondisclosed_email@example.com (2stroke)Sat, 23 Jul 2016 11:31:35 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091239,from=rss#post2091239https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091239,from=rss#post2091239Sorry the hear the same thing has happened to you 2stroke,we were lucky as the pistons were not damaged in ours and it was exhaust valves 2 and 3 so hopefully yours is the same. The only way you will find out is when you get the head off, and Kev there are a few post in other sections as to why I wont bother with the installer. nondisclosed_email@example.com (steve50)Sun, 08 May 2016 13:12:00 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091236,from=rss#post2091236https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091236,from=rss#post2091236Well its happened to me also.70,000 ks and my X-trail has lost compression in number 2 cylinder to 90 psi & it idols bad in drive & Evan stops at the traffic lights some times .It has the liquid injection system & I never used the gas on open roads .It uses no oil so must be the Exhaust valves.Number 1 spark plug very hard to get out.Something odd going on in that cylinder also.I wish I had never had it fitted now. I wrote a nice reply tonight and switching between tabs has made it refresh to blank ... :-( There is 2 or diff types of delivering/using LPG as a second fuel type? Like direct wet injection or something? - any better delivery systems to tank other than under rear bumper? - safe to use? Obviously cuz it's road legal but seriously potential for accident? So in summary, I looked up that company and found details stating they do Xtrails fitouts but all 3 successive links went no-where. - Anyone know whether they (Aust LPG wholesalers I think) still fitout LPG tanks? - Also was this an Adelaide based company In terms of cost - original estimate like 2-3yrs ago posted on here was $4-4.5k with a $2k rebate at the time to be reduced to $1k  * costs now?  * rebate state or fed thing or nonexistent anymore? - fuel economy of LPG still good?  * current cost of LPG $/L  * availability, I.e. Rural servos cuz I live far NW Qld Just wanting to see whether I could utilise my unused tyre well better while delivering greater distance to fill benefits. I see from previous postings this system can pay itself off when gas was half the price of fuel for the same economy and considering I drove 20,000 in 6 months could pay this off sooner than most. Just gonna add my recent crappy experience with my exie. It is a 2006 STS and when I bought it, it already had LPG installed and had done 70000km. Just before Xmas last year the Mil light started coming on, so I went to a mechanic(my usual was mechanic was away) and they checked it over and thought it might be sensors etc so started with o2 sensors. Still no joy after that and various other tests he couldnt find the issue. By this time the car was running rough as guts, and then, yes started over heating. Thankfully by this time my mechanic was back so had the car towed straight to him. Head gasket gone, and the valves burnt out. No apparent damage done to the head so they went ahead and replaced valves with hardened ones and new head gasket. Apparently the valves were totally stuffed from the LPG. There goes $3500 Ok, I get the car back and it is running beautifully and then 2 weeks later the dreaded Mil light again. I checked it and was Random Misfire, same as before. The heart started pumping overtime. Back to the mechanic. Chucked the consult on and random misfire. He thought it could be Crank sensors, so ordered some in. While waiting for the new sensors to come, she over heated again and yes, toasted. Without going into detail, apparently something to do with the pistons which was not able to be detected the first time, and the direct cause was from the LPG. Am now waiting for another engine to be put in which has about 80,000km on it, and removing the LPG for good. My mechanic is also not charging me any labor costs for the new engine as he felt pretty crap about it. Still gonna cost me about $4000 though . But I am having a few other things replaced at the same time.Thats about $7500 in about 2 months and that hurts The reason I have written this novel is to warn anyone that is thinking of or already has installed LPG to make sure that you keep an eye on your engine and do not overuse the LPG as it can stuff your engine and bank balance big time. Cheers. But I still Love my Exy))nondisclosed_email@example.com (undi65)Sat, 08 Sep 2012 20:16:25 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2065009,from=rss#post2065009https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2065009,from=rss#post2065009Hi while I'm new to the xtrail lpg is an old foe of mine. The rough idle/miss and the random stall could possibly be a vacuum leak on the inlet manifold or it's plumbing. Might be worth checking all the plumbing, throttle body, injectors etc. The rattle could well be heat shield on the exhaust. And if you have been using the same mechanic or workshop for everything you have had done it might be well worth changing it sounds like you are spending lots of money on minimal results.nondisclosed_email@example.com (davess)Mon, 30 Jul 2012 18:13:41 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2062482,from=rss#post2062482https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2062482,from=rss#post2062482  Hi Everyone, Jalal suggested this would be a good place to post this. I hope some one can shed some light. I have a 2003 T30 which I purchased 4 years ago as a used vehicle from a Nissan dealership in Brisbane. I had an LPG conversion (Sprintgas injected system) around 3 years ago. This vehicle has been trouble for a long time. I had the butterfly screw issue and had the head rebuilt at my expense. The dealership would not honour the used car warranty as I'd had the lpg conversion. One year ago the gearbox was rebuilt after it failed. My current (and longstanding) problems are as follows: 1) I have an intermittent engine cutout / shutdown. This occurs on either fuel type, within a few minutes of a cold start-up, after some load on the engine and a subsequent braking and deceleration. mostly after the crest of a steep hill I have to drive on each day. This is more likely if the engine is cold and I have accelerated significantly getting up the hill (less likely if I let the engine warm up and nurse it over the hill at lower revs). It is NOT on fuel changeover as it occurs when lpg is manually disabled. It has also occured once on a flat road but also within minutes of start-up. As I have to navigate a sharp mountain bend after the hill where this normally occurs, I am getting very scared off actually veering off the side of the mountain with the resultant loss of brakes and steering. 2) For 2 years I have had a worsening rattle/vibration on idle. This is worst in reverse or drive and even worse with the AC turned on. Here is what has been done to attempt to fix it: - Cam and crank sensors replaced - Accessory belt tensioner replaced twice. This belt can be seen to flap about as though the tensioner is not working but 2 new genuine tensioners have not changed this. The belt seems to be the source of the rattle but not sure. - Drive chain and full assembly replaced with new chain/assembly - Engine mounts replaced - Alternator overrun pulley replaced - Mechanic used shorter belt to test/bypass A/C compressor but rattle remained - compression test shows all four are slightly down but still between 150-160 3) Rough idle / miss - intermittent and sometimes feels like the engine is just about to stall. I am at my wits end. Even if I could get rid of the rattle in order to get a decent trade-in would help. I have read so many forums but it is rare to see an endpoint for the posters with the problem. What I have found out is that the stalling issue within minutes of start up is a problem experienced by quite a number of LPG converted XTrail owners. It seems to be something in the LPG system related to temperature control/sensor but I just don't understand what it could be. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Danielle nondisclosed_email@example.com (Midmum)Mon, 21 May 2012 19:29:28 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061531,from=rss#post2061531https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061531,from=rss#post2061531Hi Les our system is the liquid injection system which i think is not suited to the xtrail as we only get around 14/15lts per 100klm.Our filler is in the fuel cap area and there is enough room,we have the 08 xtrail t31 series 1 but i would think the series 2 would be any different in that area.nondisclosed_email@example.com (steve50)Sat, 14 Apr 2012 17:30:17 +0000 Re: LPG autogashttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061480,from=rss#post2061480https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061480,from=rss#post2061480My filler is under the rear bumper bar, and is a real pain when you have crook knees and older. Lpg 55c/l then and is now79c/ltr. I get 460Km from a tank (53ltr) , suburban use as against 550 Km per tank of petrol.(58ltr) Petrol is now $1.55 here. I know why petrol is up, but cant understand why LPG has risen by 30%, Gillard indicated a rise of 2.5% per litre yearly until 2017 but some companies have already taken more. As a senior, each dollar counts , so LPG is still more attractive, and I do not lose any power from my Exy. Also I have read posts re spare wheel position. My exy has a cargo barrier and blind. I stood the wheel flat against the lefthand side of the barrier between the support of the blinb and the barrier. I positioned the wheel so that the air valve was uppermost and put a 8 mm bolt through a wheel hole to a hole in flat bar behind the barrier held by a wing nut. With a cut through the barrier, One cross of the mesh, I can access the spare tyre valve. A nissan spare wheel cover finishes the job and is very stable.
