Re: how fast ?

Hi Guys,

Had free time on my hands this arvo after doing all the house work (yes, trying to be a good husband LOL) so I decided to replicate Noel's test with the video camera and at the same time test the video capture on my new computer emoticon

I have done only 2 runs and the best time was 9.45 seconds (for the 0-100kms run) which leads me to believe Noel can achieve MUCH better results with his manual exy (and the Hi-Tech system)

The sound is awesome!

While you're listening to the "power" listen to THIS hehehehe emoticon

Re: how fast ?

Jalal,

9.45secs!!! I'm jealous, emoticon

Actually I just had my 50000k service 4 days ago and am running on the new Castrol 5w-30 synthetic engine oil and also cleaned my K&N Air Filter, it was pretty filthy, and I also cleaned my Iridium Spark Plugs.

So looks like a good time for me to do my next run in 2WD mode with my engine running at peak efficiency.

Stay tuned.....

Re: how fast ?

Noel - What did you use to clean the Iridium plugs ???
Mine is going in for the 40000km service on Wed and am running the same oil. I will also do a run, as a comparision to a 'Non HiTech' setup. However, there is no way a high 9 or low 10 is on the cards.

Jalal - Yep, I'm impressed and jealous. emoticon

I have learnt this technique from my Dad who used to clean spark plugs by dipping them in petrol and then using a soft tooth brush to clean them. Seems to have worked for him over the years and I think it'll work for me too emoticon

You can't beat the old bush mechanic tricks can you.
But surely technology has improved in the cleaning of the plugs. LOL

Re: how fast ?

My plugs were fairly clean, just had a small amount of black soot over them which I assume means my engine is running a bit rich.

I just used a bit of degreaser and a toothbrush and they came up fine. Still got the yellow stains, however the black soot is now gone, emoticon

Re: how fast ?

I have now completed my last 0-100 test on my Manual exy with the Hi-Tech system.

Not the results I expected in 2WD mode: 9.8secs. I've tried my best, however I assume my BFG All-Terrains are impacting on the results.

Sorry Brett, what your going to hear is almost criminal to what I just did to my beloved BFG All-Terrains, emoticon

The sound effects tell the full story, emoticon

Image

(Video File Size 2.29MB)
2WD mode, A/C off, windows up, tyre pressures 38psi.

And if any of your guys are wondering, no, I'm not a rev head, and have solely done these road tests for the benefit of the forum, and won't be flogging my X-Trail ever again, emoticon, except for the future dyno test, emoticon

Re: how fast ?

My other Nissan, non turbo SSS Pulsar

My Exy speedo moves a little bit faster than my SSS one emoticon

Prefer not to speed in my Exy but on the dyno, the speedo sure does fly! Still got the Jap 180Km/h speed cut but with the current gearing, 275Km/h is possible.

Re: how fast ?

I've had mine at 193Km/h on the GPS - Speedo reading +-202. Completely stable. Oh yes, this was through a right hand bend with a bit of a join (old tar /new tar) midway through. I was more concerned about the tyres than the vehicle's ability. What is interesting though, is that we are very high above sea-level in Johannesburg (1700 metres or 5500 feet) which means a normally aspirated vehicle loses +-10 - 15% of it's power up here. Turbo's really kick butt up here compared to the "normal" vehicles. The X-Trail should thus be quicker at sea-level. I can really feel the difference when I take it down the coast. Our legal limit is 120Km/h and speed cameras start flashing at 130Km/h so most cruising takes place at 130. I often cruise at 150/160 on my way home at night. There are seldom other vehicles on this straight stretch of highway so it is fairly safe. Fuel consumption does suffer at this speed though...
