Maybe you could search for the specifications of each to see what has improved.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Thu, 13 Jan 2022 10:51:24 +0000 Re: Auto Trans Oilhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2099075,from=rss#post2099075https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2099075,from=rss#post2099075I have a 2012 Auto Deisel. My Owners manual states to use Nissan MATIC "S". but in the footnotes states that Matric " J" may also be used. The difference in price is significant ($165 for 5l of " S "and $60 for the Matic "J"), I wondering what the difference in the products are and if anyone has used the "J" without issue. I'm presuming that the Matic "S" is a later production so may be technically better. The service department at FTG Nissan tell me I am wasting my time changing as the oil does not even change colour, as previously stated, I tow my 17'6" 1750kg fully laden pop top two or three times a year and NEVER had any trouble with the transmission, I also use the lower shift positions when slowing down to save the brakes. Hope this helps with your Xtrail. I have a 2006 STS T30 and i made the switch to synthetic oil over the weekend, i chose to go with royal purple maxx atf, as it states it safe to use with engines that use nissan j matic, as i started driving it it seemed fine for the first drive home, the second time i jumped in and drove off occasionally the car would rev out, with a lack of throttle response (kind of like changing into neutral while driving and pressing the accelerator) then the car would kick back into gear.. any ideas? nondisclosed_email@example.com (CaseOfTheEX)Mon, 07 Apr 2014 23:00:41 +0000 Re: Auto Trans Oilhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2011773,from=rss#post2011773https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2011773,from=rss#post2011773Thanks for your summary Bob. It seems the way to go. I think i'll give the dealership a miss on the trans and go with my local transmission service at Morwell, who have serviced the trans on my previous vehicles. I must be a bit slow - what do you mean by PM? Happy to oblige though. Yeah, the gas exceeeded my expectations. When I had the oil changed, all FTG nissan did, was remove the sump plug, drain the auto fluid, replace sump plug, and fill with my transmax Z, $27.50 charge. On inspecting the dipstick several times I noted that there were traces of the original fluid, so I had nissan change the oil again still only $27.50. The fluid now is a nice clean colour, however, at my next service, I will get it changed, the reason I am changing it so quickly is that I had been given a 20ltr drum, and after this change it will last the life of my car. There was no need to change it this many times and if I had to PAY for it, it would have only been changed once. My comment is that this would have to be the best thing that has been done for the auto transmission. Off topic I know, but quite impressed with your gas economy towing a van. Send me a PM. nondisclosed_email@example.com (bobtaus)Thu, 17 Apr 2008 05:55:36 +0000 Re: Auto Trans Oilhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2011736,from=rss#post2011736https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2011736,from=rss#post2011736Hi Bob, Interested in how your exy is running with the Castrol Transmax Z in the trans, now that a few months have passed. I also pull a pop-top van (16'). I had a pretty solid discussion with my local Nissan service yesterday, who refused to change the transmission oil to the 100% synthetic - Castrol, at my 20,000km service. Referred to the Castrol product as "Sludge". He also was emphatic about supplying only Mobil 1 for engine. I'm tempted to go to my former trans specialist, but hesitate to because of warranty and THIS Nissan attitude. I asked about a filter kit,but was told, no need for one, as the exy had only done 31500km.I have now done 5200km since changing the oil and the gear changes are very smooth. The reason I changed the oil was that I tow a pop top, weight, about 1750kg. nondisclosed_email@example.com (bobtaus)Thu, 28 Jun 2007 20:00:00 +0000 Re: Auto Trans Oilhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2002150,from=rss#post2002150https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2002150,from=rss#post2002150castrol transmax-z for auto transmission.its matic-d within nissan specs except its 100% synthetic.feel the difference.nondisclosed_email@example.com (bluexy)Wed, 27 Jun 2007 18:34:56 +0000 Re: Auto Trans Oilhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p869063,from=rss#post869063https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p869063,from=rss#post869063Mines going in tomorrow for a transmiission service & to hook the transmission cooler up. Taking it to local fluidrive outlet as they specialize in auto's. Cost= $140. They'e recommendation is every 20,000k's. I do a little bit of towing. Known owner & had dealings with him in business & he is very reputable not out to rip you off!! So I listen to his recommendation. Doesn't recommend the use of synthetic' believes regular servicing is more economical & better for transmission. Speak to one of your local auto specialists & they will be able to advise you. Photo's of trans cooler fitted. I imagine Ultratune or other reputable shop could do it for under $200. About 1.2Hrs labour, $30 for a Auto service filter kit and about $70 for auto fluid.nondisclosed_email@example.com (blackxtrailgt)Tue, 17 Jan 2006 22:58:03 +0000 Auto Trans Oilhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p869061,from=rss#post869061https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p869061,from=rss#post869061Heya, When do you need to change the Auto Trans Fluid? I have been told by some to do it every 2 years, every 80 000kms, not till at least 100 000kms and someone even said never (ha)... Mines still that reddish colour so im not planning on doing mine, but its worth noting anyway. Also, Nissan Canberra charge 300 odd dollars for an Auto Trans service is this a good price? Because i don't think it is, sounds like a rip to me..... Mattnondisclosed_email@example.com (canberraxtrail)Tue, 17 Jan 2006 22:07:23 +0000
