Re: Head Unit install

Not sure if this price was in regards to the Kenwood 6039, I was looking at getting one of these orginally and the best price I found was from Ryda.com.au, $1069 + delivery

ryda item link

FYI Kenwood are also releasing 7039 and 8039 models soon, with better ipod interface/speed and also ipod video support.

cheers

Hi Jal,
Not too bad as there is already a short 'wiring adapter' Between the loom (strange colours) and the (old) head unit, which changed the colours to the universal(?) ones. (red, yellow, orange, blue and green, purple, grey and white(speakers)) I just soldered into them. However the speakers needed changing a bit as they were left/right Front/rear reversed. It also came with a special flat bezel for Nissan's!! Just need a camera and the sat Nav dvd player and the blue tooth phone adapter and the playstation and the ...... emoticon

Oh and go in to JB HiFI (are they national?) Say 'I'm not paying $1799!' and you'll get it for $1545.

Little tip when removing the fascia...

By the way...

I removed my center console fascia today to check on something. One small word of advise (in case it has not been mentioned before):

There are two small metal fasteners attached to the very bottom clips of the center fascia (on my series II X-Trail at least).

When you remove the fascia, those fasteners should stay with the fascia... but they might come off of the clips and stay in the little holes of the dashboard.

I didn´t notice that the fasteners stayed in the holes, and when I reattached the fascia again, the clips pushed the metal fasteners all the way in and they fell inside the dashboard.

It was a MAJOR PAIN IN THE BEHIND to get them out. Be careful.

Later,
Carlos

Re: Head Unit install

Hi Chilli, and welcome to the forums...

First post (2nd technically emoticon ) and you're already showing us nice photos of a head unit install. I like that!

Some questions about the head unit if you don't mind...

What are it's spec's? Number of inboard amplifier channels, power output, number and type of inputs (obviously DVD as you've shown in your photos), outputs (RCA, digital?), any on-board processing? Seems like a good unit already for only $700 - It's been a while since I've been in the car audio scene but it seems heaps cheaper than comparable units with a double-DIN-sized display...

Looks good, price is "fair" but more details needed, like screen resolution, number of inputs and outputs..etc

Re: Head Unit install

These units sell on ebay quite often.

The things I don't like about them are ...

1. TV tuner is analogue which means when broadcasts go digital in a few years it will not work.
2. The reolution of the display is low for watching video.
3. Slot for DVD/CD is only accessible by tilting screen forward.

Personally I will be going the same way Carlos did with a Carputer as shown in this thread
which allows the addition of a USB GPS unit and mapping software for a navigation unit, as well as MP3 audio stored on HDD and superior 800x600 graphics.

Hence my comment about the price being "fair" but it can be found for much cheaper, especially with those made in Hong Kong stuff emoticon

Re: Head Unit install

Yes Ceasar, a double DIN unit size is universal and would fit the double DIN slot in all xtrails if you take either the Ti stereo out or the single CD plater and the flip pocket compartment in the ST.
