Re: baby seats!

We have the same model.

I cant remember if we had it in the xtrail facing rewards but forwards it fits fine.

I think we did - had to move the passenger seat forward a little and use a short extension. ( I am a bit vague as we changed cars when she was 6 months)

We did not need the metal thingy with ths model as it has a "clamp" for the seat belt.

It also comes with a pad to put under it to protect the seat.

It has been through a few biscuits and some spew and always scrubbed up well.

Some baby shops will let you test fit a display model - I know we did

When looking at cars we fitted our baby seat and put the pram in each one.

Can post photos if you want.

Brett,

As you know we now have a 12 day old and a 22 month old so 2 baby seats in our exy is now required.

We recently purchased a SAFE'N'SOUND MAXI RIDER "NERO" Booster Seat for the 22 month old.

I currently have our 12 day old in the small baby seat facing backwards in the center and the new booster on the drivers side. Would you recommend that the booster be on the passenger side? Our 12 day old would still need to be taken out from the drivers side in this case. What are your thoughts?

Re: baby seats!

My suggestion Noel is to have the baby seat on the passenger's side and the booster seat in the middle.
Then you can use a harness (which you will need for the lap belt and purchased separately) for the toddler which could be clipped and unclipped from the front seats.
Your toddler would then climb through the front over the armrest.

Maybe your friendly baby shop might let you test it before you buy ?

Re: baby seats!

Noel,

I agree with Kev, you should move the seat to the passenger side. Just picture removing your 22 month old child, when parked on the side of the street. Passenger side is the grass, drivers side is the road. You accidentally trip on the passenger side, you might get a few grazes. You accidentally trip on the drivers side...

The only problem you will face, is this forces you to remove your newborn either across the childseat on the passenger side, or again, through the drivers side. You face a bit of a dilemma. But, as Kev suggests, access is possible via the front seats. May seem a little awquad(sic), but safety should be a priority, not convenience.

I'll be up there in July, so we can discuss it over a beer. emoticon

Re: baby seats!

Brett,

Suggestion was to have baby on passenger side and toddler in middle.

Then toddler climbs through middle and enters/exits by front passenger side.

No lifting of either over any other seat.

Thanks Tony, that is useful information. Especially about needing the extender strap, I would never have known to ask about that before it was mentioned by Brett and good to know that the Meridian still needs it.

The best bit about this one is that it has speakers in the headrest! so i got him a 1g ipod shuffle today emoticon

Re: baby seats!

I thought this was a new topic when I saw it come up!

We hired a baby capsule (there are several places to hire from, similarly-priced - about $100 for 6 months, however we found out afterwards that some local councils hire them out for heaps cheaper!).

I hope our seat fabric isn't damaged - we have seat covers on so hopefully they would've protected the seat fabric.

I just took out the baby capsule yesterday as Joshua is too big for it already, and put in one of those reversible baby seats (bargain - it was a freebie from a friend who is no longer going to need it!).

I should mention that for both baby capsule and baby seat, the front seat needed to be put forward considerably. I know the X-Trails already have considerable space and leg-room for rear passengers, but for some reason the baby seats take up ALOT of room!

The capsule was installed by the hire company (they came to our house) and they provided a RTA docket stating it had been installed as per Australian Standards. Apparently some hopsitals wont let you leave with your baby unless they see that docket...

The baby seat was easy to put in, but I'd need to buy another short extension strap to reach the anchor point before the capsule-hire company comes and collects the capsule and their extension strap which I'm now using for the baby seat emoticon I guess SupaCheap Autos or K-Mart etc would sell them...

We put the baby seat on the passenger's side (rear of course!) for safety reasons - not getting the baby out of the car with traffic right next to you - common-sense to some people, but others might completely forget about this issue. Some people put the seat in the middle of the back seat for added protection from side-impact accidents...

posticon Re: baby seats!

Hi Guys,
Back to the baby seats again. Once you turn the seat around you wont need an extension strap.

interesting to note that my Mum & Dad bought the last of the 07 ST-S models and it only had one baby seat anchor point in the middle!!

I cant understand why they would reduce the number of anchor points - it was a bit of a suprise when we went to stick the car seat in their exy from ours.

We now have three exys in our family, ours and both sets of parents - does that count as a meet up when they all come over??? emoticon
