Straight up... Steer clear of Black widow alarms. They are bloody awful when compared to their peers.

The best "quality-for-dollar" alarm getting around at the moment is the viper 1000. I've used it and many of the big dollar stereo cars use them and their big brothers as well. Black widow have a reputation for not working right at the time when they're needed. Im also told, the black widow system is fairly easy to get around.Wood

Hi Woody, for some reason and when it comes to Australian Standards approved and supported by insurance companies alarms, Black Widow is one of the ones listed, while Viper 1000 isn't.

It's one thing fitting an alarm system which you think may be good, but is another story when you let your insurance know which one it is, so they can drop your premium.

Most of the newer alarm systems are black wired, so I can't see an easy way around them if installed correctly and extra options are taken.

If you have any written reviews about the Black Widow alarm which may suggest its weaknesses, please post them here, but I can't discount any system based on "hearsay" or what one installer might have said about it..Sorry.

Re: Alarm Upgrade Question

I have been out today getting a couple of quotes for alarm upgrades and i've been told both times that the AutoWatch brand is the best on the market.

I am booked in to get the top of the range alarm upgrade and it's going to be costing $650 installed.

Re: Alarm Upgrade Question

I've recently got a few quotes for the upgrade alarm system which will intergrate with the original car key system. The quotes are as follows;

Cobra Upgrade $435. Two yrs warranty
Brant Upgrade $999 emoticon 3 yrs warranty
Auto watch upgrade $400. 3 yrs warranty
MotorOne $699 through a dealer Life time warranty (need to be serviced every 3 yrs to maintain warranty)

These prices are including installations. They all have standard features such as glass breaking, shock sensors..etc..

I'm very interested in the Cobra but not sure if it's a good quality brand. Has anyone have one of these systems installed? Really apprieciated for any advice.

Cheers

Re: Alarm Upgrade Question

Just have the upgrade alarm system installed by a friend of my brother who does install alarms,bluetooth..etc..for an auto electric company. The alarm system called Cyclops Upgrade, it integrates with the original car remote key which I really like. The system is designed and owned by an Australian (Perth based..yeah.) company called Dynamco. It has all standard features like Doors, boot & bonnet, glass breakage detector..etc.. and it is Australian standard compliant.

It costs me $250 for the whole system, installation included. Any Xtrail owner who is interested to have the system just send me a message and I will contact the guy for you.
