Re: Towbar

Am using the rear towbar step in place of the goose neck, so I found that buying a lockable hitch pin was a must to protect this rear step from getting pinched.

Re: Towbar

I checked mine and there is definitely no bolt underneath. Mine is a T30 series 2 and Nissan towbar.

and Ron, yep... I have been taking it off and leaving it in the spare wheel well (unwrapped), but it doesn't quite fit and I feel it is going to damage the polystyrene foam, or if I wrap it up, then I felt that the rear floor wasn't going to sit flat. ( I haven't actually tried this yet so perhaps I am wrong on this point).

For $30 delivered, I think the locking pin that Jalal mentioned earlier is probably worth it.

You can get it much cheaper than this from Supercheap Auto (I think it cost about $15). I was only showing you the eBay link as an example of it.

Re: Towbar

Hi all, I had Premier Towbars ( Dandenong ) come to my house and fit a Hayman Reese towbar to my T31.
It's got a square hitch receiver, just like Nissan's towbar, but it's 50mm, Nissan's is 40mm.
This setup is able to be fitted with any of Hayman Reese's towing aids such as level rides / stabilizers etc, and is guaranteed by them to the maximum tow capacity of the X Trail ( as we all know a hefty 2000 kg ! )
As for the locking pin, it won't fit a T31 because the Hayman Reese hitch receiver is too close to the rear bumper so I solved the problem by drilling a hole in the flat side of the standard pin and fitting it with a small padlock.

Dave, the nissan T31 towbar is 50mm hitch as well. I know that because I test-fitted the rear step on it yesterday and this step fits the 50mm hitch receivers.

Re: Towbar

Wow Jalal..... I thought $30 was reasonable for a locking pin but $15! I will go to Supercheap tomorrow. Even if I only use it occasionally, I think that's a bargain!

Thanks,

Re: Towbar

Dave,

My local Nissan dealer was running a special on the T30 genuine Nissan towbars, it was a good price, somewhere around the $450 mark supplied and fitted, so you may want to check that as well.

How about the Hayman Reece one, did you call them to ask?

Re: Towbar

Didnt call Nissan because they scared me with prices for trim clips emoticon let alone towbars
Will give them a call though and check....(genuine and HR prices). Thanks for the heads-up
Dunno if I mis-understood you but I specified Hayman Reece tow bars to all the businesses when I enquired.
May do it myself in the end...depending on prices and savings between cost and installed. Less than hundred bucks difference someone else can do it....... emoticon

It's always better to get the price on the Hayman Reece towbar directly from them instead of re-sellers like TJM and others. I actually thought TJM had their own brand of towbar, as I see aftermarket version of these towbars fitted to xtrails that have no name and look completely different to the genuine Nissan one and Hayman Reece.
