CD Problem

Hi, You guys may have experienced similar problems with your XTrail. My TI CD player sometimes plays ok, sometimes not - wont play, stops, shows an ERROR 1. This is with new and burnt CDs. When I reported this problem to my dealer he said that this is a known problem and Nissan would not replace the unit (new vehicle Sep 04). Have you guys experienced any of these problems - if so how did you get it resolved.

Thanks

Hi F111,

If your CD player does not, or is having trouble paying CDs (especially non-home burnt ones) the the dealer is required to replace it by law because it does not do the job it was intended to do. That is law.

I'd ride their backsides like Zorro until they replaced it. If you still get the cold shoulder take it to Fair Trading/Consumer Affairs in your state.

It's a fairly black and white law and by the sounds of it you have the upper hand.

I pick up my new one in 10 days and if I have that problem - then the dealer will have a problem emoticon

Danny

Re: CD Problem

Thanks everyone, the CD seems to be a week link in this terrific vehicle. I phoned Nissan in Melb and they are contacting my dealer who is supposed to contact me. We'll see. I hope it will not be like the problems we've been having with my wife's car (not a Nissan), where so far, we have chocked up 13 separate pieces of correspondance to fix up a steering problem. I'm surprised Nissan haven't produced a better CD system what with all the recurring errors.

Re: CD Problem

hi,

my old cd player was the same, it wouldnt play any cd's at all without skipping or coming up with ERROR1. Sometimes it would work fine but it would only last 15 min or so.

I had to drive up to sydney and get one from a wreckers - i believe the one i have now is a 2003 model and it works perfectly, but if yours is 2004 that is kind of worrying, because my original was an '01 and i thought they would have fixed up the bugs by now.

Re: CD Problem

Danny is spot-on regarding his warranty/fair trading response...

As for the "error1" code - does anyone know what it actually is? I remember my old Alpine head units had different numbers for different problems - eg: 1 was moisture/condensation, 2 was damaged CD etc... I haven't got the Nissan manual in front of me to check and see if it's in there or not. If someone beats me to it, go ahead and post it here or in the other threads (if it's not there already).

Re: CD Problem

Hi boys

Had my CD replaced earlier this year with same problem (2002 TI). The dealer changed it OK but they did put me off a bit. It was replaced in March. What upset me was they only warranted the new unit for 12 months because the vehicle warranty expired in April I think the new unit should be covered for 3 years.
But its not going to make 12 months, its playing up now. Sure I can take it back for a new one but how long is this going to happen. Maybe they will fight this one but they did tell me it was covered for 12 months
Jacki & I will be on the road for 9 months next year in some out of the way places and if it goes again I think I will give up and buy a after market one and send Nissan the bill.
