Cargo Barrier

Hey Guys and Gals,

Does installing a mesh cargo barrier stop me from folding down my rear seats and utilising the full rear section of my xtrail?

I want to install one but I may think twice if it means I can't fold my seats down.

Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Danny

Re: Cargo Barrier

Danny,

From what I've seen at the wreckers, the cargo barrier can be easily removed if you need to fold the seats down.

It also provides an added structural strength is case of a roll-over (God forbid of course) emoticon

Re: Cargo Barrier

Danny, the cargo barrier can be removed by undoing 4 thumb screws & lifting the barrier out. Takes about 2 minutes max. Just as easy to put back in. If you're looking for a barrier, price genuine & then go to a 4wd accessories outlet & price the milford barrier as this is who makes the genuine Nissan barriers anyway. The quality is the same.
Cheers Phil.

Re: Cargo Barrier

That's great info, thanks guys.

I have priced a genuine one which is around the $700-$800 price and a Milford one is $335. Obviously I'll be taking the Milford option. emoticon

Any ideas on how easy they are to install?

Re: Cargo Barrier

Danny, I installed mine myself as I have fitted quite a lot of these over the years. My advice would be to have it professionally fitted if your not supremely confident, as it only takes 1 slip & it could cost you more than the $120 or so it would have cost to have it done. You can still utilise the rear carpet mat when the barrier is installed. All you have to do is mark the bottom mounting holes & use a punch to punch a couple of holes in the carpet. They do come with full diagram, instructions & even rust preventative.

Cheers Phil

Re: Custom Made Half Cargo Barrier

Hi all.
I have been asked to put some information here about my custom made cargo barrier that i have in my exy. I got it at a local (Adelaide) roof rack, bull bar etc outlet. It is basically the same dimensions as a Milford Barrier using the same materials as the Milford Barrier and finished in black powdercoat. The mounting mechanism is the same as well with the 4 arms and quick release bolts. The only difference is that the bottom section is not filled with mesh, it is open to the rear seat backs. I got to choose the height the cross member went at and mesh was welded in to the top section.
Advantages
Can lay down the seats and slide in long objects without removing the Barrier
Can get access to the rear cargo area via the back seat by folding the back seat forward. This is particularly useful when i carry my pushbike on the back and cannot open the tailgate.
There is more useable space to load right up to the back of the seats
There is more space to allow the back seats to recline
Can load the back cargo area to the roof easily.
Built as strong (same materials) as Milford Barrier
Disadvantages
No compliance plate showing load ratings as does not comply to relevant AS.
Will not guarantee no objects can get past in an accident situation (between top of seat back and barrier).

Here the advantages clearly outweight the disadvantages. It is better to have something there than nothing at all. It is still easily removed if required. And it cost the same as getting a full Milford Barrier ($450) and was made on site to fit.

I will post some photos and dimensions as soon as i work out how to do it. I hope this is useful to someone.

Re: Cargo Barrier

I tried a few places around adelaide and Sunshade Products Roof Rack World were the only ones who would "tailor make" one for me. It is basically a Milford type barrier with the section below the seat top with no mesh in it. You can specify the height where you want the cross beam placed as they make them on site. The mounting points are the same all over so if you wanted one from interstate i suppose they could do the barrier and you just need to organise the mounting points as for a Milford.

See it HERE

I hope this is helpful.
