I've found a flaw in the search engine (actually the correct term would be "limitation") - I did a search for "hi tech year warranty" to try and find out their warranty period, and it came up with a link to this thread, but it takes you to the start of the thread, meaning you have to read through lots of pages before you find the exact term you searched for...

Re: New Forum Search Engine

Hi Rich,

We never claimed the search engine to be perfect and its capability is limited to directing you to the thread and/or post where the matched word is found and not to directly to the reply. It is much better than the Runboard search engine in this regard.

An alternative to the forum search is to use google. If you enter a search like:

hi-tech "10 year" warranty site:com1.runboard.com/baustralianxtrail

It will return results with offsets included (i.e. will take to the relevant post). Obviously this won't return recent posts until the google crawler comes by again, but it's handy nevertheless.

Re: New Forum Search Engine

Thanks for the tip Joel.

We did use the Google Search engine for the forum prior to this one but it proved to be VERY selective of what it can capture, as the crawlers don't seem to be indexing every reply on the forum, which resulted in some of the searches returning no results at all.

Re: New Forum Search Engine

Jalal,

Now with the new "Full Member Only" forum sections, will the search engine pick up all the topics ?

Re: New Forum Search Engine

Yes Kev, all forum pages will be picked-up by the search robots when search indexing happens, but that doesn't mean that Regular Membership holders will be able to "read" the full membership forum section when it comes-up in the search engine. The restriction will still apply.

Thanks Jalal.

BTW ... the post above by Jollyman (moved by Admin) might be something for Rich to try in addition to the forum search.

Re: New Forum Search Engine

Kev, maybe I'm over-defining my search, but I tried your suggestion and it only came up with one thread that had ARB OME in it, but it did take me straight to the page (it was offset 10, which is only the second page in the long thread - I wonder if it stops searching that thread once it's found one match?)

Re: New Forum Search Engine

The thing with Google Rich is that by having both ARB and OME in the searchline, it will list all occurances it finds with both, before it starts listing occurances with only ARB and then occurances with only OME.

Try them separately and see if you get anymore listings.
