Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry
Hi Everyone,
A totally non-4x4/exy subject. I'm going to be off-line shortly for a few days/weeks.
We are about to be hit by one of the worse tropical cyclones in 30 years, with Brisbane currently on standby for help.
I've experienced Cyclone Winifred when I was 10, when it hit Innisfail and also experienced the eye of that cyclone. That was only a category 3 and was bad enough, a memory I'll never forget.
With Cyclone Larry currently at category 4 and expected to intensify to possibly 5, we could see a mother nature catastrophe up here similar to cyclone Tracy that hit Darwin.
For those that are interested. The best place to keep track of what’s happening is via the Bureau of Meteorology’s web-site HERE
The current location of the cyclone at 5pm EST:
And the current prediction:

Re: Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry
Noel and all those in that area of Australia.
Our thoughts are with you and I hope that Larry decides to change directions therefore causing minimal damage.
We will track the progress of this potential disaster with great interest.
Please stay in touch while you can.

Re: Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry
Hi Guys,
The worst fears of everyone in the far north QLD have just been realized
The cyclone has been upgraded to cat. 5 and it is starting it's distruction of towns and homes in those areas as I type this message.
Latest news update is HERE
One can only imagine what the guys are going through and I certainly do hope that everyone and their families will be OK.
Due to the above natural disaster, we might not see Noel on-line for quite some time, but I will try everything I can to stay in touch with him (if I can reach him)

Re: Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry
Just got a message from Noel saying that "all safe and well for the time being, with minimal damage"
I hope it stays like that.
**UPDATE** as at 12:00pm Sydney Time
Noel just called me saying the cyclone has passed over Cairns and the worst is now over.
No major damage at all, except from trees all over the streets.
Noel thanked everyone of you for your concern and he's hopeful he will be back on-line as soon as they have power!

Re: Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry
Hey I'm back,
All Safe and Sound. And if your wondering, the exy is in perfect condition,
Still no power at home which is expected to be out for a few days, . I'm lucky I work for Local Government, which is probably one the first places to have power restored, hence access to the internet, .
Cairns was no way near hit as hard as was Innisfail. Amazing all my family in Innisfail are all safe and well and also very little damage to property. From my experiences with cyclone Winifred, the winds in Cairns were similar to a catergory 2/3 cyclone.
I have some photos and video footage which I'll post when full power is restored at home. Stay tuned.

Re: Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry
Glad to hear it, Noel. All the best with refrigerator and freezer problems without power.
