Re: Forum Enhancements & Suggestions

Is it possible to make the "Last Post" date in the "Last Post" column a link to the latest post as some other boards do???

This would save having to click on the latest Page number then scrolling down.

This feature is already there for you. Just click on the small arrows after the date and username of the last person who made a post in a thread and it will take you straight to their post.

In this thread for example, click on the arrows that will now against my username and it will take you straight to this post.

Gotcha emoticon thought it would be somewhere.

Is there a colour code; I think I've seen red arrows sometimes?

Re: Improvements to forum

OK I visit a lot of online forums of various sorts and am afraid to say that this one is one of the slowest and most frustrating to use. I'm unsure whether its the amount of untidy graphics in signature line and on the pages (in borders etc generally) but it does run a lot slower than other forums.

The actual functionailty is a bit clumsy, it not being obvious how to easily switch netwen the various forums here, It seems you have to click on the Australian XTrail forum button near (but not at) the top of the page.

These two things frustrate me a lot and make it a chore to look thorugh the forum which does contain a lot of good content - just hard to find / reach.

As far as speed and ease of use goes I have noted that other forums which work well for me use:
SMF 1.1.12 | SMF © 2006-2010, Simple Machines LLC, or
vBulletin® Version 3.8.6 Copyright ©2000 - 2011, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

whereas this one uses AkBBS 0.9.5b

I hope this information is of assistance to you in improving the site.

Cheers

Re: Forum Enhancements & Suggestions

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your feedback.

1. What type of browser are you using?
2. What type of internet connection are you using?

I have just run a test on the forum page load time and got the following results:

Image

I am using IE8 and a Broadband connection and I can't say the forum is slow, it loads as fast as it should, especially if you're a repeat visitor where the cache doesn't need to be loaded more than once.

To switch between forums while viewing a reply and/or a thread you either need to click on the "Australian X-Trail Forum" grey image or use the Forum Quick Jump feature that is available to you at the top of every page and you can navigate from there to any forum section you wish.

Other forums on the web which use V Bulletin are all paid forums, we on the other hand are using Runboard as our forum host and it is totally free, so we are totally dependant on what Runboard is using which so far has worked great and did include any hacks and loss of data like the vBulletin boards are subjected to.

P.S. Runboard Support have reported an issue causing their boards to run a bit slow in the last week or so and is related to server upgrades they're implementing at the moment.

Hope this helps.

Re: Forum Enhancements & Suggestions

G'day Jalal

Is there any possibility of including a "like" button/tab once a post has been made (akin to what is used on Facebook)? It could save time and restrict unnecessary clutter in some threads (for example, you were discussing the LED lights for series I T31's, and mentioned that my expression for interest/purchase - was noted). Rather than log on and reply that I acknowledge your comment, I could just click on the "like" tab linked to your post, to show that I had read the post/comment.

Don't know how you'd manage to incorporate it ...... just a idea I thought I'd throw out to you emoticon
