Removing Tail Lights
Hi Guys,
One of my rear parking lights is busted, is there a trick to getting the rear tail light assembly off? I've undone the 2 bolts, but it won't come off, according to the manual, there are no clips holding it on. I don't particularly want to bust it because they are no doubt expensive!
Any tips - much appreciated!

Re: Removing Tail Lights
Hi noodlesq
I've done this many times now and the 1st time was the hardest, I also undid the two screws and nothing happened
I took my chance after that and decided to pull it out as hard as I can and sure enough it was off.
What you need to do is have your right hand grabbing the bottom of tha tail light assembly and the left hand grabbing the tip of the upper part of the tail light, then pull towards you as hard as you can.
There are 3 clips that are holding the tail light to the body of the car in place apart from the 2 screws, you can see them when you loosen the screws, just look from the rear mud guard portion of the tail light and you'll see them.
P.S. Busted light bulbs so early are covered by 1 year warranty. Unless it's 2002 model (like mine) then you need to change them yourself.
Good luck.

Re: Removing Tail Lights
Thanks for the info Jalalski, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to break anything. I have a 2002 Ti, so the spoiler on the top was stopping me getting a good grip at the top. In the end, I slid a flat head screw driver under the outside edge of the light assembly and pulled towards the light. Sure it scuffed it slightly behind the light. But who cares, the resale value is already shot to bits anyway ;( And it's not like under the light is going to be investigated by a potential buyer!
I didn't know dealers replaced the lights. I did ask them to replace a blown front fog light on an earlier service (assuming they'd charge me for the light and the 5 minutes it took). But they didn't bother and neither did I. It's that sort of service (and the fact that a $300 service is just a change of oil) that had me change to Jax. Two services later, I can't tell any differance and have saved $350...

Re: Removing Tail Lights
Hi Tom,
Take a deep breath and pull the lights towards you from the top edge, they will come off and won't break.

Out of interest has anyone modified the tail lights to add an additional stop/tail light in the top section. I have an ST-S '06 and the top section of the tail light is just for looks - no bulb.
Yes Scott indeed. This modification has been covered off in the DIY Guides section found HERE
The second one from the top of that list will take you to it.

Re: Removing Tail Lights
Kev,
Is this the first time you're taking the tail light off? It's only hard the first time and the grip needs to be made right at the top of the tail light lens. Don't be afraid to pull back as hard as you can, it won't break.
