Re: tyre pressure ?

When I put the Dunlop RV's on, the tyre dealer told me to run them at 40 psi.

Normal cars usually run at 30 psi.

The higher the pressure the better fuel economy, but slightly harsher ride.

I'll check the sticker tonight for you.

cheers
Geoff. (grayham RIP)

Re: tyre pressure ?

Nah, I cant speak for all tyres, but 40 psi seems about right as Xtrails are heavier than normal cars, therefore need a bit more pressure in the tyres.

40 feels a lot crisper than 30 in my experiences.

Re: tyre pressure ?

The general rule is take 10% off what the tyre is rated. so if they are rated 50, run 45 etc.
If you want to get it perfect do this.
use the 4psi rule
A good way of double-checking that your pressures are correct for your application is the 4psi rule, recommended as a good rule-of-thumb for accurate, appropriate tyre pressures.

Check tyres cold and then straight after a decent highway run you should see a 4psi (0.275 bar) increase.

    * If it is less, you have set your cold tyre pressures too high;
    * if it is more, then you have set them too low.
    * Adjust the cold pressures accordingly and check the results when hot again and you should have a 4psi difference.
Cheers
Jamie

Re: tyre pressure ?

tire pressure on sidewall means maximum pressure allowed when vehicle is a maximum load, it does not mean that is what you €are supposed to used.

If you do used that number then the tire will begin to where in the middle of the tire.

It is recommended to use what the manufacture states on the door. Granted if you do a lot of highway driving the tire does heat up and the pressure does deflate, so a couple of psi higher would not hurt the wear on the tire.

Another solution is to put in nitrogen instead of air in your tire to maintain better psi.
