Spare tyre
Hi everyone, I have Xtrail T31 ST, series 5, 2.5L 4 Cyl, 6 speed - this car was sold with 4 tyres 225/60/r17 size, but the spare is 215/65/r16. Is this a problem in case of puncture long distance away from repair centre? I am getting different answers to this. Apparently all Nissans x trails around 2012 were sold with spares like that, not sure why they would do it like that. I think I remember the salesman telling me, that the 225/60/r17 would not fit into the space for the spare tyre. If I need to buy a new or used rim, what details will dealer need? Apparently there is a number on the rim that they might need. Is that correct? Could you please help me with this. Thank you for your help, best regards, Danny.

Re: Spare tyre
You will see an icon across the bottom of the page banner which has a tyre symbol on it. Clicking that will take you to a website which shows differences in tyre sizes. After you are on the website, click the tyre comparison tab and enter the 2 different sizes to see the diameter and rolling sizes.
Your 2 sizes have a 2.2% difference but I'm not sure what the Nissan 4x4 system will tolerate until it registers a fault. If the 215/65/16 is the standard spare then I expect it would be OK.
A spare of 225/65/16 only has a 0.4% difference so I would recommend getting a 225/65/17 for the spare to make them as close as possible just to be sure you have no problems if as Dave says it should fit in the spare wheel well OK.

Re: Spare tyre
Agree with the others.
The factory space saver can be replaced with the correct alloy and tyre size. I did on mine by sourcing one from a wrecker. You have to rework the foam insert in the boot to fit the changed rim for the floor to sit flat.
Be aware the spare is temporary use, 80kph limit and can’t be used if towing. So pretty useless outside city use.
That all said I’m now fitting 16 inch rims and hope to squeeze a 215/70/16 in there. Might be an option along with the 225/65/16 suggested above but can’t say that does fit yet.
