What did you do to your Xtrail recently

Hi all,

This thread has been created for those who want to update us on their projects without starting a brand new thread every time they do something to their Xtrail.
Basically, just post what you did (if anything) to your Xtrail today, it can be as minor as a wash or oil change to something as big as a motor rebuild! Pics are great too!

Re: What did you do to your Xtrail recently

OK I'll start this off.

On the weekend I fitted power folding mirrors to my T30 Series 1.
They were standard on the early model Xtrails overseas in the UK but Nissan decided to cut this functionality from the Australian models (like many other features).

As we have all the wiring in our looms for many of the missing features just like the rear foglamp, it is a matter of plug&play if you can get them from overseas.

But I went the more difficult route as with shipping costs being so high from the UK, I found a helpful Xtrail UK Forum member who is also a "breaker" (or wrecker as we refer to them) and they sent over just the power folding motors for me to retrofit into my mirrors and the dash control switch, saving me shipping costs by both weight and package size.

Re:

The battery clamp was getting a little corrosion on it so I took it off, wire brushed it and spray painted it with some Rustoleum gunmetal primer & paint all-in-one.

Put the Xtrail in to have the timing chain and intake cam phaser replaced and check the compression.

Engine is run-in and ordered a Torque Damper from the US.
These things stop the engine from rocking back-and-forth under hard acceleration, saving wear & tear on the front/rear engine mounts as well as transferring more torque to the wheels as a result.

Re: What did you do to your Xtrail recently

What did I do to my xtrail lately??? Had both CV joints replaced. About 2 years ago my mechanic advised at a service that the RHS inner CV boot was split and there was grease "everywhere". Got the boot replaced but soon after noticed a shudder at take off and when accelerating rapidly but no issues normal driving. This year my wife and I had planned a trip to Darwin etc so decided to have the shudder issue resolved. Got both CV joints replaced and now exy drives as smooth as a whistle. Aircon compressor replaced about 18 months ago.

So all I can say is that having purchased the exy new in August 2010 I have had no other issues. At 79,000 Km and a couple of sets of tyres the vehicle is going strong....even with CVT transmission. Had 2 CVT oil changes in that time but no other issues. Cheers all.

Re: What did you do to your Xtrail recently

Early Christmas pressie for the Xtrail since it is almost 200,000kms now and was showing signs of a few little hiccups when sitting idling at traffic lights.

Replaced both the cam and crank sensors along with the heated oxygen sensor.
Also cleaned the mass airflow sensor and the throttle body and drained the catch cans while I was in there.

Emptied about 150ml of oil from the catch cans but that is probably a couple of years running and the intake manifold was so clean.

Forgot how difficult it is to reach the crank sensor, especially now that I'm not as lythe as I once was emoticon

Re: What did you do to your Xtrail recently

My son is selling his 2010 STL Xtrail as of today. Great car. Reason for selling I hear you ask? He bought A 2016 STL Xtrail. I’ve still got my 2011 STL. Very happy with them all. Nearly forgot to mention my daughters 2015 TI.

Re: What did you do to your Xtrail recently

Trying to track down the cause of a rough idle which intermittently has a hiccup which makes the engine feel like it is going to die, I have replaced the cam & crank sensors, heated O2 sensor, spark plugs and battery. All one at a time of course to see which makes the difference. Next will be the coil packs. Xtrail runs fine, just rough idle in drive especially with aircon turned on.

While replacing the battery I noticed the battery tray was extremely corroded so I removed it, wire brushed off all the rust and gave it a double coat of rust converter/primer to keep it protected. Also had to replace the negative battery terminal after the tightening bolt snapped off as I was loosening it due to corrosion on the threads.
