Re: LPG autogas

Sorry the hear the same thing has happened to you 2stroke,we were lucky as the pistons were not damaged in ours and it was exhaust valves 2 and 3 so hopefully yours is the same. The only way you will find out is when you get the head off, and Kev there are a few post in other sections as to why I wont bother with the installer.

Re: LPG autogas

All rebuilt finally .I noticed the bore had a few light score marks & may have bean from the drilling of the inlet manifold when the LPG injector lines were put in.Or maybe the Cat Converter blow back . All up the bore & pistons are OK so very lucky. My Mechanic got a LPG head from Headex PERTH but the first one they dropped off was only Stock. You must have hard exhaust valve seats at least .Not shore what elso is needed. Dont trust your mechanic.Look & check for yourself. When I got the car back it would not idol right & I had to pay Magic Nissan to fix & reset that .The primary cat has been completely removed to as it will destroy the block on LPG .The only problem now is when you back off the throttle on LPG in gear I get pops & Bangs out the exhaust pipe some so bid the muffler could be damaged. My Guess is the Cat used to burn this LPG up & stop this from happening before but now without the primary it goes further down the pipe perhaps igniting at the second Cat .Its vapor injected LPG & does not happen on Petrol at all.

Re: LPG autogas

Exhaust popping and banging is usually caused by either incorrect timing or over-fuelling.
LPG is a slower burning fuel and so needs a more advanced timing than petrol so if the timing is not changed by the LPG controller then it could be possible for unburnt LPG to be pushed out with the exhaust gasses.

Re: LPG autogas

Today I went to get the LPG cheeked & was told its OK & that there must be a Air leak in the Exhaust somewhere.Well I did have a big crack right on the Muffler out let pipe so I took it off and welded that up.It seemed to help a bit but did not fix the problem compleatly. To soon to be 100% shore . I could not find no other leaks anywhere & was also told by a Exhaust repair shop there is no second Cat on this 2005 T30 model. It only happens when the pipes are hot & only on LPG.I know there is no Cat in the exhaust manifold no more & before it was removed this problem did not exist.I will keep looking for air leaks but to be honest I dont think I will find any.We will see.

Well it looks to me from looking around on the Net & Manual my 2005 Ex does have a Second Cat that looks like a Hotdog Muffler.I bet removing it will fix my popping & banging.Soon Find out.
Well I took off the first Hot dog looking unit & it was a Cat .Original & made in Japan.Inside I could see right through it.Only the thin metal that held it was there.I needed the car so put it back on & yes it still backfire out the Muffler.

Re: LPG autogas

Update

As of yesterday my Xy has done 176000km mainly on LPG. Still performing as well as the day it was installed. Have had platinum sparks replaced twice 100km and 75km but were still perfectly acceptable, no heat stress.
Only major problem was a damaged valve membrane in the convertor which caused a leak of gas (minor) but upset "she who must be obeyed."

Cost of rebuilding the u nit was about $180 with all new seals etc. but as the original installer said the unit ususally had a life of about ten years, mine installed in 2010, I bit the bullet and installed a new unit for @300 with two year warranty.

Latest gas useage is about 12 litres/100Km.which on a tank of 55ltr is about 450kM urban.

All of you out there keep safe and well.
Les

Re: LPG autogas

Thanks for the update Les.

I'm interested to know how you use the LPG and what system it is you had installed.
I seem to recall there was a requirement to use an occasional tank of Petrol to keep the valves lubricated too.

Re: LPG autogas

Hi Kev
Sorry for the delay in answering.
My system is an Italian vapour injected system with their own ems.
The car starts on petrol and the ems. Switches to lpgas once the engine has reached a temperature that allows proper gas burning. Also rpm must exceed 1000 first.

Have a nice day
Les
