gear shifting problem

Yesterday I pulled out of a service station, tried to shift with my manual T31 Diesel 4WD into the third gear and it suddenly let go. No resistance in the shifter, its loose. Had to drive home for 2o km in the second gear with 40km/h. Anyone having an idea if it could only be just the shifter having lost connection or manual gear box problem?

Re: gear shifting problem

Hi Kev, thanks for your reply. Can not shift into or out of any gear. It is permanently in the second gear and can drive. The shifter knob feels loose, no resistance in any direction.
Any thoughts?

Re: gear shifting problem

The shifter is connected to the gearbox by 2 cables. It would be a start to check those however I find it odd that both might break at the same time.
The other things to check would be the shifter mechanism itself to make sure the cables are still attached to it and the cable connection points on the transmission.
