Re: GPS navigation Trouble With Garmin BC30 Bluetooth Reversing Camera Following Map/Sotware Update

My NZ new petrol T31 came with a factory reversing camera, screen built into rear view mirror, but it was pretty useless, I already had a Garmin GPS so got a Garmin BC30 bluetooth camera. Got it all installed and working good, until I did a map update last weekend, this took out the reversing camera, and made the operation of the GPS unstable- just discovered that Garmin Express stores restore points for devices connected to, so rolled back to last restore point and everything seems sweet again.

Will get another BC30 to fit to front to give some forward vision when you need to get up close and personal with a car in front.

Hello boys and girls,
It's time to download your Lifetime Free Map Updates from Garmin....for those of us who continue to have Lifetime Free Map Updates. (See my previous posts)

Australia and New Zealand version 2022.20 is now available.

As usual, log on to Garmin Express and download the latest version of GE (7.7.1.0), read carefully through the list of updates offered, tick the Australia and NZ map update and off-you-go.
Download and install took less than 5 minutes.

Re: GPS navigation

Hello again BPxtrail.
Alas your timely reminders of updates has made me realise that I can now no longer update my old trusty NUVI because I am running Windows 7 without the required Service Pack 1 as a minimum. Now I can't insall Garmin Express because it requires SP1.
Some months ago I experienced many issues with my laptop to such an extent that I copied all my files to an USB stick and restored my laptop Windows 7 back to factory presets.
And now that Windows 7 is no longer supported I am unable to download SP1.
So either I put up with current maps on my Garmin or bite the bullet and update my computer. Decisions decisons decisons.

Cheers

Re: GPS navigation

And finally success.
This afternoon I was able to download Garmin Express on someone else's computer with Windows 10. I was then able to register my old trusty 14 year old NUVI 1350 GPS to that computer and it was recognised by Garmin Express when I added it as a new device.
I was then able to successfully update my NUVI to the latest maps etc so thanks once again BPxtrail for your advice that the latest updates were available.
All's well that ends well but now need the dreaded "lockdowns" to cease so that I can get out here to make use of the updated device.....bring it on.

Cheers

posticon Garmin free map updates

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
It must be near Christmas (and end of lockdowns) as Garmin have released their latest Australia and New Zealand free map updates, 2022.30

As usual, logon to your Garmin Express, download the most recent GE version, 7.10.0.0
Have a look at the download offerings, and if you're not taking your Garmin overseas, simply install the A+NZ 2022.30

Simples!
Took me about 7 minutes from start to finish.

GPS navigation

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Latest Garmin map updates, v2023.10, for those with Garmin Lifetime Map Update eligibility is now available.

Usual methodology;
- connect your Garmin GPS to your computer
- open Garmin Express
- download latest version of GE, v7.11.0.0
- choose the update/s you want, in this case, City Navigator Australia and New Zealand
- click on Install

Stand back and let the process complete itself. Circa 5 minutes.

Simples! emoticon

Re: GPS navigation

Once again thank you for your timely advice of a map upgrade. Upgrade was successful for my old Nuvi 1350. While it's working fine and upgrades are available I can't see any reason to purchase a more modern device.

Cheers.

Re: GPS navigation

Funny you should mention that Dave.
I was looking-up the cost of upgrading the in-dash GPS, which is an Eclipse unit, reliant on NaviExtras for the maps....err...US$119.95 for one map update.
That's AUD$169.95 as at today !!!

I reckon I could pick up a new Garmin for around that price.

Re: GPS navigation

Yeah and I was looking at the Garmin Drive 51LM 5" GPS that The Good Guys are currently advertising for $179 and the LM in the model description is an indication of Lifetime Map update according to the Garmin web site.
I guess an "in dash GPS does away with messy cords etc etc but if my oldie is working then it suits me OK. I have used it quite successfully in NZ when my wife and I hired a car there for several weeks before all this pandemic situation. With the free upgrade of Aussie and NZ maps it worked a charm.....so I will continue using it.

Cheers

Re: GPS navigation

Received an email today rfom Garmin which states quote "Map updates for certain Garmin Australian automotive navigators will be discontinued on July 1, 2023. Map updates will continue to be available until this time. Click here for a list of devices impacted by this change."

No explanation whatsoever is given as to why the map updates will be discontinued.

My old trusty Nuvi 1350 is on the list. Below is a link to the list of affected devices:-

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=pHuPuK8tGB28NJL4LDhkn8&searchQuery=Map%20Update%20Discontinuation%20for%20Certain%20Australian%20and%20New%20Zealand%20Garmin%20Automotive%20Devices

When I pressed "chat" to discuss my concern I ended up chatting with a North American support centre who stated that I should contact an Australian support centre. The Garmin Australia website contact "chat" page does not even recognise my device. I will give them a call during next week to discuss my concern I have a perfectly good operating Garmin GPS device that although old is still serviceable. I want Garmin to honour its Free Lifetime Map Update committment which offer was the specific reason I purchased the Garmin.
