T31 Activate / Deactivate the Auto Lock and Unlock feature

For those missing this info or the car manual like me....

To activate:

1. Close all doors
2. Turn ignition to ON position
3. Within 20 seconds, press and hold the power-lock door switch (see location) in LOCK position for 5 seconds
4. Single beep will sound when successful*

Resulting function:

As you start to drive, if your speed increases over 12kph, all the vehicle's doors will auto-lock. If a collision is detected, all doors will auto-unlock. Doors can also still be opened from within the car, just not externally.

To deactivate:

1. Close all doors
2. Turn ignition to ON position
3. Within 20 seconds, press and hold the power-lock door switch in UNLOCK position for 5 seconds
4. Single beep will sound when successful*

* I've read some X-trails and Nissan's will not make this sound, rather the hazard lights flash, twice for activation and once for deactivation. All doors should also unlock automatically once the key is removed from the ignition

Hi Nick,
I didn't know the Xtrail had this feature. I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'll let you know how I go.
Thanks.

Hey Eric,

Let us know how you go, keen to find out if this works in other series of T31's also.

Cheers

Didn't work for me. I tried it many times with a stopwatch but still no joy. There is a unit available that plugs into the OBD2 port that also locks the doors at a certain speed, but I have a HUD inserted in there. Did it work for you?

Re: T31 Activate / Deactivate the Auto Lock and Unlock feature

Ah nuts, just went down and tried again and made it do the 'deep' sound first try. But it doesn't make sense why it works on the MY10 ST I have and not your car. On the weekend I'll do a ECU reset and see if I can do it again just to make sure.

Could be different series though both are 2010.
That's the case with my T30. Last of the Series 1 dated 2003 but also when first of Series 2 came out.

Re: T31 Activate / Deactivate the Auto Lock and Unlock feature

Thanks Kev, I didn't know that. That whole series thing is so confusing even after reading a few posts on it.

Just 'reset' the ECU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B48cGRuya9k) and now my stereo isn't working at all (but dash is lighting up) and I'm not hearing a 'beeping' sound when I do the activate sequence emoticon

I noticed the car came with some funky wiring behind the dash so looks like I know what i'm doing this weekend emoticon

I think for now let's remove my post from the list of 'how tos', i don't want to break or mislead anyone with a T31 like me!

Re: T31 Activate / Deactivate the Auto Lock and Unlock feature

It may work on other T31 series, so probably a good thing to leave the post up and let other people try it. Then we'll have an idea of which series can enable this function. If it doesn't work for them, there's no harm done to the electrics of the car.

Exactly Eric.
For now Nick I have added the note that it is still to be confirmed which series T31 the procedure applies to
