Re: T31 S5 stereo LCD going black in heat

Sure Kev, happy to do that. I'm having a little trouble working with Flickr though, so I need to put some time into that. I only seem to be inserting a link to a thumbnail at the moment. I used a very clear how to Youtube video. Is it OK to paste that link? Ron.

Youtube links are fine Ron, as per forum rules. Just not ebay, AliExpress or other shopping type links which go dead once the item sells, where a picture or description allows searching easier.

Re: T31 S5 stereo LCD going black in heat

OK Kev. The original LCD screen was made by Daewoo, so a search along the lines of Daewoo LCD screen for X Trail should find it easily enough. Obviously to replace the screen the radio needs to come out, and while that has been covered on this forum in the past, I'll give a brief run through. First remove the plastic surround by pulling hard on the bottom edge. The surround will un clip from the dash. Lift it off and the audio unit will be exposed. Remove the four Phillips head mounting screws (shown) and withdraw the radio. Un plug the 4 connectors and the radio is out.

The rest of the process is very clearly covered in this YouTube video:

The tools used are pretty common, except maybe for de-soldering braid, which I diidn't have. I just melted the solder and tapped the board to knock it loose. I suggest doing this with the board upside down to avoid dropping solder into the circuit board. Be careful observing front and back of the new screen as you go to refit the correct way.
Good Luck!
