Re: Some DPF Pids for OBDii Scanner

Now that I agree with. Some information AND documentation in the owner's manual would be more welcome from Nissan, especially since a lot of the Diesel Xtrails would most probably be used for short school drop-offs and might hardly see long trips often enough as they should.

I think more info and a manual regen button (like the hilux now has) would have been a better move.

Re: Some DPF Pids for OBDii Scanner

I think one of the issues with a manual regen button in the exxy is the M9R workshop info says if you force a regen you must change the engine oil right away which I could see being missed constantly by your average owner.

Out of interest @J, how do you force a regen, any chance for some screenshots or something showing the process? Mine seems to be cycling fine but it's good knowledge to have in case.

I actually noticed that currently my DPF Mode didn't flick to mode 4 until it hit 24g. I need to give it a run and let it cycle late this week/this weekend and I should be able to plot a new graph. Since that first graph I've done a change from the oil that was in it (Castrol Magnatec crap) for Penrite C4, had to replace a pipe for the intercooler piping cause it cracked and I had boost leaks and installed a Provent 200 with a new oil free air filter.

Re: Some DPF Pids for OBDii Scanner

I think it only needs an oil replacement due to the type of regen being performed - i'm sure the Japanese models don't do this on the regen button.

Something that triggered the regen at lower revs or during normal driving would be better than what we currently have. Looking at the engine during normal regen it only needs over 2k revs and high temp exhaust gas - this could be done without needing an oil change.

I don't actually bother with forced regens as mine always failed after 40mins. This to me showed that the regen had actually worked but the soot mass had not gone back down to below the required level to trigger a successful regen.

What i tend to do is just do a dpf reset which tells the car it has a new DPF. I then go for a drive and the DPF soot value gradually creeps back up to where it was but then if needed it does a burn off like normal. I know this is supposed to cause the car to do regens at the wrong intervals but my DPF soot mass never goes back to 0 anyway. It does go down to about 10mg and the diff pressure is fine, so i know the dpf is not going to jump out of the exhaust anytime soon.

To do this and a forced regen i use the Autel AP200 dongle and mobile app. It's about $100 which together with oil and filter is probably cheaper than taking it to a garage to be done.

It will also show the diff press reading which is what Consult III shows. You can then compare that to the service manual. I find soot mass much better for this though and something which is really strange as it is only available using Consult III+ I believe, even though the PID is readily available.

Cheers

J

Re: Some DPF Pids for OBDii Scanner

I finally got some of the PID's working AND an excuse to drive it more than a couple of km's. The soot level was up to 33, and it did a long, long burn cycle, dropping the soot all the way down to zero and then back up to 5 after the cycle finished.

Re: Some DPF Pids for OBDii Scanner

Thanks for the info. I did a big drive from the coast to brissie today and mine would only go down to 15g. I obviously have a mismatch somewhere.

Re: Some DPF Pids for OBDii Scanner

For reference, and the technically less skilled, can you guys quickly explain the values of these PIDs? How do you know a regen is taking place?

Soot Mass in gram: Shows the soot obviously. Regen should start at about 25mg
DPF Mode: 1 is normal? And the higher the number the more clogged the DPF is? Or does a higher number show the regen status or that it's active?
Temps: Which values show that the EGR is doing its job and that a regen started?
DPF Exhaust Flow Rate: Where should this value be at when the DPF is healthy? And where is it when its clogged?

Thanks for the explanation emoticon

Re: Some DPF Pids for OBDii Scanner

For the DFP Mode. I'm pretty sure 1 = normal, 3 = DFP burn needed, 4 = DFP burn in progress

For the soot mass mine isn't starting burns till it is over 30+ grams, so I guess keep an eye on it and work out what your normal range is.

For the Temps I typically see 200c to 300c when it is running normally (depends on the speed and load on the engine) and around 400c to 600c+ when it is doing a burn.

The mode is wrong. 1 is normal and 3 in DPF burn in progress. 4 seems to be a bit strange as it goes into 4 after about 12.5 grams of soot.

As mine doesn't ever get down to 0 soot it tends to be in mode 4 most of the time until a burn off which may take it down to around 10 grams.

I guess either way it is easy to see a burn off, mode 3 and exhaust temp up around 600.
