Re: Revhead's Mota
Just replaced all 4 struts with KYB gas Struts.
Got them cheaper from a UK supplier, complete with dust boots and bump stops (which are not available in Australia) with shipping for less than the struts cost on their own from any Australian supplier.
Also replaced both front driveshafts, genuine Nissan parts purchased from Amayama, for half the dealer price.
DIYs for both will be submitted to the forum shortly.

Re: Revhead's Mota
Just replaced the starter motor. Purchased from an ebay member thehan13 for $149 posted. This is the ebay seller store for Lanka Auto Electrical in Dandenong VIC, so a fully registered business.
Not an original Bosch but perfectly compatible with same mounting and connections. Difficult to tell the difference actually and highly recommended. They also noted on the invoice it is suitable for T30 and T31 Xtrails.
Only really needed the starter solenoid as that was the faulty part but with a replacement from Amayama being around $100+postage I thought best to replace the whole assembly for that price considering it is almost 15yrs old and the brushes would be getting fairly worn too.
Only took about an hour to replace. Most of the time was spent removing the air intake filter box to get access.

Re: Revhead's Mota
The Xtrail is in at the shop getting its engine rebuilt. It was down on power and using too much fuel so a stretched timing chain was suspected.
Anyway they did a compression test and #1 cyl was 140psi with the others ranging from 160-175.
Specs are 153 MIN so definitely needs some work done.
While it's there I'll get the injectors overhauled with new filter baskets, O-rings, pintel caps and a deep clean.

Re: Revhead's Mota
Hi Dave,
The T30 is a very capable 4wd and with the mods I have done has more clearance than a T31 or T32 though they have more technical advances.
Being a 2003 model it is the Series 1 T30 and at 17yrs still has minimal rust that I know of.
I've replaced all the underbody bushes and front driveshafts a few years ago so the engine is really the only major part left to refurbish to bring it back to full life. With so much going on inside an engine it was just a little too big a task for me to tackle it myself just from the service manual.
The rebuild won't be cheap, but still much cheaper than a loan for a newer model Xtrail and there are more plans for this one.
