posticon X-Trail T32 (and other model) bonnet strut kits

Nissan X-Trail T32 (and T30 and T31) bonnet strut kits

I haven’t seen any posts on the Forum about bonnet strut sets for the T32. After doing some research, I have found and ordered a set and thought I’d share what I know. You can make your own decision about what you think is best for you. I have no affiliation with, and have not received any benefit from, either of the businesses I have referred to.

Yes, you can buy cheap Chinese strut sets off eBay, Wish, Bangood, and Shopify etc. No thanks.

As far as I am aware, there are two main manufacturers of quality aftermarket bonnet strut sets - both Russian and both based in Moscow. These are Rival/AutoUPOR and Atlant-Engineering LLC (AEngineering). There are two key differences between the strut kits:

1. The Rival kit uses a steel bracket near the shock absorber mount (in front of the fire wall) to attach the bonnet strut to the body (using an existing bolt); the AEngineering kit has the bonnet strut attached to the car body on a steel bracket mounted near the existing bonnet strut support hole (using existing holes).

2. The Rival kit attaches the strut to the bonnet about halfway between the bonnet hinge and the front of the bonnet using a gas strut ball stud (using an existing hole); the AEngineering kit attaches the strut to the bonnet on a steel bracket that utilises the existing bonnet hinge bolts.

You can also find out a lot about the various kits from the Russian X-Trail Club at
http://x-trail-club.ru/forums/topic/30162-upory-kapota-t-32/page/8/#comments It's (obviously) in Russian so you will need Google interpreter emoticon

You probably know of Rival which manufactures a range of 4x4 protection accessories, some of which (like bash plates and bull bars) are distributed in Australia. Some of their bonnet strut kits (but only for the ‘big’ 4x4s) are also available in Australia. They manufacture kits for the various X-Trail models - but these are not available here.

You can buy the Rival kit (Part No. 2A.ST.4113.1) / AutoUPOR kit (Part No. UNIXTR021) -they are the same - on-line from various retailers in Russia and the EU (UK and Germany) for between $160-$200 (including postage). Here's one for a German retailer https://autoranger.eu/en/gas-struts/2a.st.4113.x?id=4756.

You probably don’t know of AEngineering (I certainly didn’t) which markets under the brand Pneumatic Auto. Here’s their website (in Russian) www.upory.ru. They have kits for the various X-Trail models listed - T30, T31 and T32. I don’t speak or read Russian so I found Google interpreter to be really useful in navigating and understanding the site! This is a proper business retail website and you can purchase using PayPal. I've exchanged a few emails with their Export Development Manager (Andrey Ansimov) who was very helpful.

Here's a link to the T32 bonnet struts at their new shoplift website: https://ansimovs.myshopify.com/products/nissan-x-trail-t32-rogue-2015

You can buy the Pneumatic strut kit for the T32 (Part No. KU-NI-XT32-00) for around $110 including express shipping from the upory.ru online retail site. This is the one I have bought and which is on its way. I’ll post a note when I receive and fit it.

Tip - if you order a set from upory.ru choose ‘EMS Express Shipment’ NOT any other post/freight option.

Check out the youtube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHimGu-sBhI of their T32 bonnet strut kit (KU-NI-XT32-00).

I understand there is a new, affiliated outlet ansimovs.myshopify.com. where you can also buy the kits.

I hope this information is useful. Of course we wouldn’t have to go to all this trouble if Nissan fitted bonnet struts to the X-Trail as OEM!

Ура и удачи!
Michael

One of the earliest mods I did to my T30 was fit bonnet struts. Makes it so much easier accessing the engine bay without the pesky support rod in the way. And you can open the bonnet single-handed too emoticon

Yep. One of the first mods I did for my Hilux was to fit bonnet struts. I can't fathom why they aren't standard on all vehicles! It obviously peeves the Russians as well!
