posticon 2009 T31 A/C Compressor Replacement

Hello all,

I've made an error buying a replacement Air con compressor for a 2009 T31 2.5L Petrol
Unfortanetlly I have purchased an INTERNALLY variable compressor with a single electrical plug (directly to the clutch), and when I finally got into the deep bottom corner to remove my busted compressor I found that it is actually an EXTERNALLY variable compressor with a double electrical plug (1 clutch, 1 to some form of control switch)

the question you can all see coming.... whats stopping me using the Internally variable compressor? Does it self regulate the pressure? or am I going to get errors leaving the second plug open? do I bite the bullet and just buy the right part?

praying someone has already made the same silly mistake, or even better, wants to buy a brand new un installed internally variable compressor for a T31 off me.

I can't help you with your questions, but what happened to your original compressor? I had a couple of problems with my compressor and I managed to repair it both times. Maybe yours can be repaired and save you having to buy another one.

Re:

Good question, I just got it out of the car on the weekend.
It was diagnosed by a local auto electrican who quoted me on fixing it,
they mentioned the clutch isnt engaging, it was still full of gas when I opened it up on the weekend so luckily it doesnt leak, hoping I can test it myself now thats it out

any tips on trouble shooting?

Re: 2009 T31 A/C Compressor Replacement

The clutch on my compressor was burnt out, so it wasn't engaging. I'm pretty sure it was a recall from nissan but my VIN was out of the list so I decided to do it myself. I bought the clutch from Aliexpress for around $50. Ebay may have them. There's good youtube videos to show you how to replace it. Search for a/c clutch replacement on a Nissan Altima, its the same compressor. To check if the clutch coil is gone, connect a multimeter across the two wires coming out of the clutch coil and it will show an open circuit if it's no good. You can also see the coil is burnt and maybe even smell it. I put a post on this forum with a small write up about it. Hope this helps.

Good Morning,
I live in Brazil.
Did you say that the Nissan Altima compressor is really the Xtrail?
In Brazil I didn't find a compressor for Nissan Xtrail 2.5, 2012 (92600JG30A or 92600JG30B).
I saw some Nissan Altima compressors advertised, but I'm not sure what will suit me. I'm in doubt.
Do you know if there are other alternatives?

I also saw an ad for the Rogue 2011 compressor - 926002216R, only it has a mechanical valve, but the measurements are similar to mine.
If you can help me, thank you.
Happiness.

I should have said "It looks the same as the 2.5 Xtrail compressor in the videos I watched." You'll have to do your own research there either online or at an auto wreckers, as I wouldn't want you to buy the wrong one. Also check the pulley diameters are the same.

Easiest thing is to take the part numbers to your local Nissan dealer and ask them to check which suits and if some are just replacements for others.

I took a chance and bought a magnetic clutch assembly from Ebay for just over $60 for an Altima Sentra 2.5L 2007-2012(to keep on the shelf as a spare), as there are none advertised on Ebay to suit a T31 2.5 Xtrail. It arrived today and I can confirm the bearing, magnetic clutch, circlips, shims and the pulley are identical. I won't be fitting it until the current one fails. As for the complete compressor, best to do as Kev recommends.

Re: Re:

A quick update to close this topic, The compressor installed with no issues, obviously no physical difference to the mounting brackets or pulley Diam.

the system has been sealed, gassed and running well for a few months now, simply leaving the variable volume control wires unwired did not appear to casue any issues.

If you find yourself in the same situation as me, I say that it works well enough. likely just not as effecient for cooling.
