Damn T30 won't start

hey all, its been a while, I recently bought a 2006 ST X auto XTrail (229 000kms), on initial purchase it had the P0340 code for the cam sensor and the timing chain rattle. I figure I could fix these issues as the test drive was good and I was confident I could fix these minor issues.
The car broke down on the way home, it ran to a stop and would not start, I figured the cam sensor had given out and towed it home.
I changed the cam and crank angle sensors and cleared the codes with a OBDII interrogator, and the car did not want to start, fuel pump runs, car turns over but no spark, pulled all of the spark plugs out and checked for spark and there was nothing, no voltage to the ignition coils either.
A bit of reading into the fault from this and a few other forums, I changed out the ECM relay, the O2 sensor (which was old anyways), checked all of the fuses and fusable links and still it wont run, it will turn over with the starter motor but no ignition
I checked the codes again and got P0340, P0444 and P01612, I was using the red key to start it as we have since I bought it, but since gone to the black key in the hope the immobilizer wasn't causing issues (or the key for that matter)

I have googled the crap out of the issue and replaced the items above to get it going again seems to be an issue with several different things popping up
Still wont fire, and as i bought it for my daughter she is starting to get impatient with it.

Cheers

Adrian

Did you use genuine cam and crank sensors ? The QR25DE engines we have are a little fussy when it comes to the sensors to use.

Re: Damn T30 won't start

thanks for responding, yes factory sensors, can't go wrong there.

going to try disconnecting the battery and shorting the cables next.

"edit" tried it and it still won't start. running out of options so the dealer might be the next thing to get them to see whats going on.

cheers

Adrian

It might be that the chain has skipped more than one tooth if you know it has timing chain rattle.

Re:

not sure, might be a thing but, I had the NRMA guy came by to have a go, codes cleared and it is still showing P0340 code, even after changing the cam and crank sensors and swapping them around. He said the starter motor is definitely on the way out as well. He tried the flood start like I did and tried starting with some aerostart, nothing happened.

so might change out the starter motor and see what Nissan say on the way home tomorrow night, and see if they have time or the ability to look at it in the current climate.

Update, Nissan was a complete waste of time, no idea and no help at all, even with telling therm i was going to buy the timing chain and gear off of them. I left with no further ideas and started stripping the bay out to get the engine out and do the timing chain change, its the only thing left now that hasn't been changed.

Re: Damn T30 won't start

well latest update, o2 sensors changed out, new spark plugs, new cam and crank sensors, new timing chain kit inc tensioners, new battery, new starter motor, new ECU relay.

car would not still start, it would turn over but no spark at the ignition modules at all.

cam sensor code kept showing up all of the time, swapped sensors, made no difference

figured it might have an inherent electrical issue that was outside my scope so i booked it into the local Nissan dealer for some 'expert' help

after 4 days on and off they were stumped.

until they pulled the rocker cover off and noticed the inlet camshaft hard up against the cam sensor.

inlet camshaft snapped in two, game over on this engine for the time being..l

Ouch.
Any idea how the camshaft snapped ?
Did Nissan say if there was any other damage to valves or pistons ?

Re:

Yeah i know, ouch
they had no idea and only went as far as identifying the issue
workshop manager said in his experience the engine would be toast.
I am going to have a good look before I go any further though, I would like to save the engine if possible noting I have spent a bit of time trying to fix it, but I have a sneaky suspicion that someone previously has worked on it and left a few things no quite right on it.

when i was wrapping up the timing chain install I noted a few of the cam saddles were a little loose, in hindsight instead of tightening them back up I should have pulled them all off and inspected them further.

I wonder if this is the issue with the few that have snapped camshafts, the saddles have loosened off and bang goes the camshaft.
