Blown Head Gasket

Hi Guys,

I have a 2002 xtrail with a blown head gasket... I am getting it fixed as we do want to keep the car for a few years, it has been very well looked after and looks like it has just come from the factory.... it has been garaged all its life... and I only paid $1000 for it emoticon I have had the car now for 6 months (purchased off the original owner)...

What else should I get the mechanic to do when he has the head off... the car has only done 115,000Kms and 5000 of that is from me over the last 6 months.... is there anything else he should change while we have the chance???

Since getting the car I have done the following.. The car really is in excellent condition right now.... thinking about giving it to my son in a couple of years. It drives great,

- New (good) tires
- New (Good) stereo
- New Battery
- Replaced coil packs
- Installed reversing camera
- Replacement air-con pump
- Obviously I changed the plugs, oils and air/oil/fuel filters as soon as I got it.... though it still uses the original fuel pump.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated... if anyone knows where I can get the proper timing chain kit at a reasonable price the that info would be greatly appreciated... repco what about $460 for it...

Thanks,
Stuart.

Replace the crank and cam sensors and have the butterfly screws loctited.
You can usually find both timing chain kits and full rebuild kits on ebay for the QR25DE for a good price as they use the same engine in the Sentra sold in the USA.

While the heads off replace the thermostats and add blue coolant not the green stuff.

It is recommended to ALWAYS use the genuine Nissan coolant/inhibitor otherwise any potential claims for engine problems due to corrosion can be rejected by Nissan due to incorrect coolant mixture.
