Why did you need to have LOCK mode selected for 10 minutes of driving ? That would definitely cause the system to shut down.
Where were you driving ?
Usually LOCK mode would only be needed for starting off in soft sand or heavy mud and once going could be put back to AUTO mode.

When it came on was it illuminated constantly, flashing slowly or flashing fast ?

Solid illumination of the 4WD lamp usually indicates either a loose/disconnected 4WD controller connector or a fault with the 4WD system.
As a first pass inspection, check the connector on the 4WD controller located behind the passenger glovebox.
Next check would be to make sure the 4WD relay in the relay box of the engine bay is seated firmly and that any connector in the 4WD solenoid control line has not been disconnected or a wire partly damaged from sticks or rocks catching it on a track.
