Re:

local breakers ...eBay .... local Nissan dealer ... Amayama ...

they're not crazy money brand new from a dealer .. think about US$100 ... perhaps more in Aus tho.

US$75 from Amayama UAE

and about the same on eBay UK, delivered .... 'New Condition' (?) ..does that mean New?..or not?.. dunno

plenty of options tho .

Re: Recommendations for where to buy clock spring

Be careful getting one from a wrecker. If the steering knuckle has been disconnected from the steering column or the steering rack then the steering wheel could have been too far in either direction and break the internal ribbon cable which spirals around.

Best is to try Amayama as I did when I needed one for my T30. Cheaper than the dealer even with shipping.

Re:

agreed .... a breaker is probably not the best place to be getting something like a clock spring.

... and especially since the price of a brand new one is not too exhorbitant.

Re:

ebay, around $40. Most are LHD (L instead of R moulded on the hub - even though they wont tell you usually), which means the ramps for cancelling the indicators are mirrored, so indicators wont always auto cancel on small steering inputs. You can swap this part from the old one.

It doesnt take much resistance change in the wiring to trigger the fault code.

Cheers

Re:

I'm puzzled as to why LHD or RHD matters for the clock spring??

surely a right turn..is a right turn..no matter which side the wheel is on?

or am I just having a moment ..

Re:

Yes you are correct, however on LHD cars the indicator stalk is on the left (opposite side) and so the little "ramps" that cancel the indicator stalk are mirrored to match.

If you fit the different one, then tuning the wheel one way will cancel the indicators earlier than normal, and the other way you need to turn it more before the cancelling will work. Nothing huge but a pain. As above, you can swap the "top hat" part to make a LHD clock spring work with the RHD top hat.

If you picture the top wheel, the ramps on RHD are around 12 and 5 o'clock position on RHD (ie ether side of the indicator stalk), on LHD they are 7 and 12 o'clock.

Also, no need to reset the steering wheel angle sensor, the sensor unbolts from the clock spring. Just have the steering centred and dont move anything.

Cheers

Re:

i remain unconvinced .... pretty sure the indicator is on the LH stalk ...regardless of LHD or RHD ..

Re:

That is is incorrect, on RHD cars the indicator stalk is on the right. eg T31 in Australia.

The only cars I know of where they do not change the position of the stalks when swapping between LHD and RHD is some european cars eg mercs and bmw, where you often see wipers going at roundabout for people who have not driven them here.

Cheers

Re: Recommendations for where to buy clock spring

hmm .... that is unusual ..
looking at some indicator stalks on ebay.co.uk ( therefore more than likely RHD)... they seem to be like my LHD T31 ..ie. indicator on the left hand

I guess different markets may have different layouts ..

no matter ...
