Re: Re:

I might be a little late replying, but the tail lights are different between series 3 and 4. Series 4 are LED (I think) and I think the reversing light is in a different position.

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

hi all ...realise this thread is super old now ... but Im interested in doing the gear selector mod on my LHD 2011 T31 Series 2(?). I did the steering wheel mod already ..that was super easy..I tied it into the illumination circuit on the head unit supply ..looks great emoticon

I had the gear selector off this morning to have a look ... my legends are also just painted on..no way at all to illuminate using my current part ...despite having the lampholder recess..AND the wiring already in place to just plug in. Defo need the indicator part with opaque legends.

My current part no. is 96940- JH40A ..... remember, mine is LHD...so Im trying to suss out what the part no. would be for the relevant LHD part? ... have any LHD owners addressed that yet?

Im thinking perhaps the 'H' is the key ..between RHD (G) ...and LHD (H) ? .. if so, the part no I would need might be 96940-JH10A? ...instead of 96940-JG10A ..

I tried to narrow it down on epc but it doesnt seem to identify rhd & lhd seperately ... or maybe Im not looking in the right place ..

anybody have any thoughts guys?

actually..I've just re-read the gear selector posts...and it seems to suggest that the part no.s of the non see-thro part...and the see-thro part ..are THE SAME?! ... is that correct?
John(?) showed a pic of his gear selector cover showing 96940-JG10A ..... and reported that it is NOT see-thro ...but the summary from Jalal says the correct see-thro part no. ..is 96940-JG10A ..ie..the same?! ...
.Am I reading that correctly guys?
If that is correct...it makes ordering the 'new' see-thro part..a bit of a gamble ...could easily get the same non see-thro part as I have already?!

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

I know it’s more than a decade on from when you first posted this fix, but I want to add my thanks to the thread. I had to go over and over it and then realised that I hadn’t followed your instructions properly - didn’t have enough copper and didn’t pull it back through the valley! It works beautifully and I love my t31 even more. Many, many thanks, s970022!

Worked like a beauty on my 2013 ST.
I had no problems at all, so thanks for the original post. emoticon

...and like everyone else, I cannot understand why this feature was ever removed. How many cents/vehicle did Nissan save?

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Hi guys.
My Exy (T31, 2011, auto) is missing the steering wheel buttons so I'll be adding them once they come all the way from the UK, hopefully this week emoticon
So, I'll be doing two mods in one - adding the buttons and lighting them up. I have an aftermarket Android unit, so I'm thinking of lighting them up from the unit. I want them to light up once I turn my parking lights on. Am I right that all I have to do is connect the two lines responsible for the LEDs to the GND and ILL lines of the Android unit (apart from the key 1/2 cables)?
As in this picture:

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Check the installation guides for your new head unit as the ILL wire on head units is usually an input from your dash lights to dim the lights on the head unit at night. If this is the case then your steering wheel controls will come on with your dash lights (parkers on).

Thanks mate!
Yep, that worked. I got every cable I needed from the aftermarket Android unit. Easy...

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

The other night I was driving back home and at some point I noticed the lights on the steering wheel slowly dimmed down to a point they were not visible at all. Next day the were back to normal. Since then they have been working very sporadically. Just checked them 5 minutes ago. They work, but started with some short flickering. Several seconds later all looks good again.
I supply the power from the very same cables that power the head unit, which works fine. And installed a 100 mA fuse as advised above 9n the 12v wire.
Any idea where the culprit could be?

Likely be a poor join in the connection somewhere or if a wire has a sharp bend in it maybe some of the cores have snapped internally.

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

The very first thing I did, mate. I wiggled the both cables well in every contact spot and the light was solid.
I closed everything and left the car working for several minutes and noticed that the light was again dimming down.
Wondering if that can has something to do with fuse?
