Re: CVT Transmission oil change?
Hi all,
Does anyone out there know what Hyper-CVT fluid means.
In the generic service manual that came with my new T31 Series2 in 2010, there are two references to CVT for the 120,00km service.
Under the heading "ALL VEHICLES" in the service manual the two references are:-
. Replace Hyper-CVT fluid at 120,000km.
. Inspect CVT fluid (For level & leaks)
The CVT fluid was NOT replaced at this service and the service rep could not (or would not) explain what "Replace Hyper-CVT fluid" meant. He said that replacing my CVT fluid was not required at the 120,000km service and was not on their list of requirements.
I looked through the whole service manual and could not find any other mention of replacing CVT fluid. Tghe manual goes up to the 160,000km service.
Does anyone know what Hyper-CVT refers to??
I no longer go to Nissan for service and have since had the CVT fluid replaced a couple of weeks ago during a thorough service and inspection in readiness for my trip out west and beyond...leaving tomorrow with the wife and will be away for 3 weeks or more.
cheers

Re: CVT Transmission oil change?
Nissan has developed 3 types of CVT over the lifetime of CVT use in passenger vehicles.
The first was the N-CVT for smaller engines < 2 ltr
Second was the Hyper-CVT for engines in the 2 - 3 ltr size
Lastly is the Exoid-CVT for use in > 3 ltr rear-wheel drive vehicles where higher torque output is generated by the engines.
Many forums discussing the Nissan CVT suggest changing the oil more often than Nissan suggest as it prolongs the life of the CVT. Dirty, used oil promotes wear on pulleys and chain.

Re: CVT Transmission oil change?
Thanks Kevin.
I guess because of the wording "Replace Hyper-CVT fluid at 120,000km" Nissan would argue that although I was in for a 120,000km service it was based on a 72 months service. 120,000km OR 72 months whichever came first.
I was nowhere near 120,000km at that service so Nissan didn't change the CVT fluid but still charged the same service charge as if I had done 120,000km.
I then gave Nissan away.I have now had three subsequent 6 monthly services done by a local mechanic who was located in the same industrial complex as an transmission specialist facility. So at my last service (at approx 122,000km) a couple of weeks ago he changed engine oil/filters, thorough check over etc and the specialist changed the CVT fluid.
The specialist actually rang me to state that the CVT fluid still looked ok and that it is usually around the 150,000km mark that he does them. I told him to go ahead and change it anyway because I was heading out west for a few weeks in early September. (leaving tomorrow with the wife..Uluru etc etc)
He said that if it was his car he would probably change the CVT fluid every 100,000km. But I guess being a specialist he could do it very cheaply.
cheers and thanks again
