Re: 33 misfire, engine light.

What you will need to do is get a thicker head gasket when you get your head shaved.

Reason is that our timing chain runs across the block/head interface and if too much is shaved off the head then the tensioner has too much slack to takeup, possibly running out of adjustment resulting in a loose chain causing excessive wear on the guides.
This is something many of the Sentra guys with our QR25DE engine have found.

In the Forum Discount Offers area for full members there is a free download thread for the T30 service manual.

Send Jalal a message to make sure the manual links are still active and then after your membership payment has been received by him, you will have access to that section and can download the manuals.

Thanks Kev
Have had the Snap on Camera down the #3 plug hole and under radiator press there is the odd drop of coolant between the head and bore. So off she comes.

Re:

Well what a day. Removed the head of the 2006 xtrail.
You need a e20 I think it is, to remove head bolts, early use 10 mm Allen head bolts. That's the easy part.its all the s*** you have to remove to get the head off.
Mechanic s that said they had done them before said not to hard. Well I must need to update tools. Getting the top half of inlet manifold off was ok but cramped, but all them bloody brackets hanging off the under side.
Bit of Rusty stain in top of bore in #3 but ok. Now to get all the s*** from the gasket of block.

Re: 33 misfire, engine light.

Has anyone replaced the OIL rings on the variable control on the inlet cam?? When replacing the cylinder head.
there is 3 of them and the Nissan manual says to replace them at every disassembly.
I ordered the 2 o rings that go between head and cam front cover.
But the Service guys at Nissan Dealer weren't to sure if they had replace them before.

Re: 33 misfire, engine light.

If the manual says to replace them when disassembled then I would, if only to make sure there is no oil leak due to old compressed O-rings that would require pulling it all apart again.

Re: 33 misfire, engine light.

Yes I have ordered them, but just my luck only 2 available in Australia. few weeks on back order. Hard to believe this is advertised as most popular small suv in Australia.
By the way these 3 Oil rings are steel. Pn 13042-6n200. The boss that is on the Cover , that holds the Solenoid is around 2mm small in diameter than the inside diameter of the inlet came gear. so the rings most take up a lot of slack. As its oils pressure that controls the inlet timing.
Is there a reason we cant add photos to posts?
